I sought this book out after seeing the movie and I’m happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. I’ve listened to this story 3 times since I purchased it and not because I didn’t get it or got lost the first time round.
The author managed to convey the terrifying disposition of the story’s main character, Dr. Hannibal Lector, through the written (and spoken) word brilliantly.
The story is full of twists, suspense and interesting sub characters. The first time I read it, I just couldn’t put it down and near finished the entire book during one sitting. This is another one of those books that I cant recommend highly enough. If you enjoy horror and suspense fiction, then I doubt you’ll be disappointed with this book.
I'd absolutely listen to it again because I enjoyed it so much. Grisham seems to have a knack at keeping a reader interested.
The Firm, again by Grisham because I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Changes voice characteristics to suit different characters. Excellent narrator.
Made me lose sleep because I kept me listening to it far to late on work nights :)
If you enjoy court room drama and a glimpse behind the scenes of what goes on behind Jury Room doors, then this won't disappoint. Highly recommended.
Absolutely. The story is fantastic and the introduction by the Author makes it even more amazing. It's about an African boy who went through a rough child hood and ended up becoming a champion boxer because of all the inspiration he got from the other characters. I don't want to give too much away so I'll leave it at that.
The torment the young lad went through that is portrayed by real to life happenings. This book is based on a True Story, but has been enhanced to the point of most of it being fiction. This does not take away from the enjoyment of it.
His uncanny ability to alter his voice to every character in the novel. An excellent performance and I will definitely be looking for other books narrated by Humphrey Bower for that reason alone.
Discrimination at its worst but with a fantastic outcome.
Absolutely loved the story and the narrator. I lost a lot of hours of sleep listening to this title because I just couldn't stop listening. Highly recommended - you won't regret getting this one. My 20 year old son, who never listens to Audio Books even enjoyed it and often listened to it with me. Nuff said? :)
Those that are *really* interested in who Chris Ryan is and his past.
Same as the book itself.. boring.
More detailed info and much longer than it was.
Sorry, but for me, it had no redeeming qualities at all
Don't bother with it unless you REALLY want to know a little bit about Chris Ryan - but don't expect too much out of it because you actually learn very little about him.
Realistic, Suspense and Scary. This book has all three and is highly enjoyable.
Comparable to "The Chamber" also by John Grisham. Fast becoming one of my favorite authors!
The main character.. brilliant stuff
Absolutely. Extremely hard to put down and stop listening to. Many a night I would be up until 2 or 3 in the morning listening to this book because I found it so interesting it didn't help me get to sleep - quite the opposite in fact.
Grisham is a brilliant author and I love his books. Highly recommended!
Absolutely.. I love listening to books in bed when going to sleep or in the car and find it hard to actually "read" books because of those reasons. In fact, the only time I actually "Read" books is when sitting on the loo :)
The suspense and action narrated perfectly by Stephen Tomkinson.
Don't really have a favorite character. I liked and enjoyed them all.
My reaction was that it was hard to get to sleep because I wanted to keep listening to it. It's that captivating. I also spent quite a few hours (over the time that I read it) by sitting in the car park at work listening to the book for just a "little bit longer" :)
Great book and highly recommended for anyone that enjoys this type of genre
To give insights and tips that one can't find by just doing a quick search on the web.
It just drones on and on and doesn't hold your interest. I almost returned this book but did n't in fairness to Audible given the reasonable price of it.
Same as the last question. It just drones on and on and doesn't hold your interest. The tips Phil gives can be found by reading any poker related site on the web. Nothing new to learn here.
No redeeming qualities at all so far as I'm concerned.
Look elsewhere for Poker playting tips. Phil Hellmuth isn't the answer. You'll get better value on Poker Sites that have player forums and it won't cost you a cent or a credit.
Yes, I would recommend the book, but only if they were interested in what a person can go through if they get sent to prison.
The way it was written.. It's a diary and I found it very interesting given that I've never been to prison and hope I never do.
The narration was excellent and the emphasis he puts on certain parts of the Audio book makes it highly enjoyable. Much better listening than reading when you have a good narrator.
A Prison Diary in the First Person
A good listen that I found highly enjoyable. My only complaint was that it was too short. I would have liked it to be a couple of hours longer.
Not the best by any means, but certainly enjoyable.
The suspense and action
The Rambo character for sure - Once again, Eric Dove did a great job at making Rambo sound just like Sylvester Stallone did in the movies.
Action packed thriller!
If you enjoyed the Rambo Film series, it's almost a certainty that you'll enjoy the book as well.
This was read like a story without the interruptions of saying the same thing over and over like Star Wars did.
Didn't really have a favorite character. Liked them all :)
I enjoyed all of them.
Great science fiction!
A good read / listen. Recommended for Science Fiction fans.
I hated the way it was read in a Radio type fashion where it kept repeating itself over and over again with each part starting.
Disappointing to be honest. It ended in a way which could have been improved ten fold.
I liked the performance when the story was actually read. I absolutely *hated* the was that each part started with an introduction that you have to listen to multiple times.
It nearly inspired me to return the book, but to be fair to Audible, I did not do that because I did kind of enjoy it, despite the multiple introductions.
Try a different book or future versions of Star Wars
