Depressing to know some of the touted companies in this book no longer exist; I guess that is the next book, "Good to Great, To Bust!" All in all it was another attempt to categorize techniques and environment to predict the future outcome of corporations. I strongly suggest reading "Black Swan" and "Outliers" before you buy into this BS. Even with the best leadership and business model, tomorrow is never promised. While you are in a leadership position, you should strive to derive knowledge and increase your natural abilities to lead the organization. If luck and timing are on your side, you and the corporation will do well; if not, you’re both screwed. You have to develop the wisdom to navigate rough seas in order for you and the corporation to sail another day.
Good book on the origins of Lean Methodology and the Toyota system. Too bad most who practice Lean, Six Sigma, etc do not take in the whole education; as Americans we seem to short cut everything. Due to these short cuts, we have a lot of businesses that after recent economic circumstances are finding themselves at a point where they may not survive as a company. The recession was only the catalyst; shortsighted leadership was the true cause as most companies raced to the bottom in cutting costs to the point I fear a large number will not be able to recover. A tool is only as good as the craftsman that wields it. Needless to say Lean Leadership is all about leadership and has nothing to do with cutting costs. I would have recommended this book, but it is like handing a loaded handgun to a toddler."
I have downloaded several times and still can only listen to the first section of the book, but at the end of the first clip it stops playing and appears there is nothing past it even though it is as large a file as my other audiobooks.
The title should be the "The Coming China Civil Wars." This could have been a short lecture true, but the depth of the detail shows the instability of a Communist country built on the backs of rural peasants that are obviously at a breaking point. The only worries we as American should have of China are the same as those we have of Russia which is their inability to control their nuclear capabilities/stockpiles as their society falls into ruin.
Very interesting to see how little things tip the scale.
