  • Baby Proof

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Emily Giffin
    • Narrated By Christine Marshall

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes...a baby carriage? Isn’t that what all women want? Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart.

Jenna says: "Try the version read by Cynthia Nixon"
"Not my favorite, but still very good"

I chose this book because I read "Something Borrowed" and liked the idea of the plot because I was in a similar situation to the main character. The book was good and brought up a few points about conflicting child-having views that I had never thought about before.

  • Eating Animals

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Jonathan Safran Foer
    • Narrated By Jonathan Todd Ross

Jonathan Safran Foer spent much of his teenage and college years oscillating between omnivore and vegetarian. But on the brink of fatherhood - facing the prospect of having to make dietary choices on a child's behalf - his casual questioning took on an urgency His quest for answers ultimately required him to visit factory farms in the middle of the night, dissect the emotional ingredients of meals from his childhood, and probe some of his most primal instincts about right and wrong.

    Natalie says: "Surprisingly Even-Handed"
"Great... if you don't mind being nauseous!"

I became a pescetarian in 2007 due environmental, animal, and health reasons. I thought I knew about all the terrible things they do to animals, but I was so wrong. For example, I knew that people threw live male chicks into dumpsters to die, but in this book I learned that they actually grind them up live in addition to putting them in the dumpsters.
I had to stop listening to this book a few times because it made me sick and eventually stopped listening to it because I was afraid of vomiting on my way to work. Yeah, it's gross, but I think everyone should know what they're eating.
And by the way, I have stopped buying commercial eggs.

  • Until Tuesday

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Luis Carlos Montalvan
    • Narrated By Luis Carlos Montalvan
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

    Char says: "Very Good Book"
    "Great Story"

This is a great story about a veteran whose life was pretty much saved by his service dog, Tuesday. It really made me appreciate veterans more to hear his story told firsthand. Luis pretty much starts in the present, goes back in time to before Tuesday, then works his way forward telling of his time in the Middle East, problems with his family, how he came to get Tuesday, and his life with him. I think anyone who likes dogs, anyone who is close to someone with a mental or physical disability, or anyone who'd like to know more about veterans' lives would love this book.
