  • FREE: The Future of a Radical Price

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Chris Anderson
    • Narrated By Chris Anderson

The New York Times best-selling author heralds the future of business in Free. In his revolutionary best seller, The Long Tail, Chris Anderson demonstrated how the online marketplace creates niche markets, allowing products and consumers to connect in a way that has never been possible before. Now, in Free, he makes the compelling case that, in many instances, businesses can profit more from giving things away than they can by charging for them.

    Joshua Kim says: "Valuable"
    "Worth money"

Though this book is free to download it would be worth purchasing.
I was surprised to find this book about free, which was free to download actual is a very interesting book I would highly recommend. Opened my eyes to how things are marketted and how I could prosper with my own products and services.

  • I Am Spock

    • ABRIDGED (4 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Leonard Nimoy
    • Narrated By Leonard Nimoy

Best known to the world as the actor who created the legendary Mr. Spock in the cult television series that launched the Star Trek phenomenon, Leonard Nimoy has written the definitive Star Trek memoir. In this long-awaited autobiography, Nimoy opens up to his fans in ways the Vulcan never could.

    Lannielui says: "Two in One"
    "Most Entertaining"

I've been a fan of Leonard Nimoy for a long time but listening to this book, and listening to it brought forth by Mr. Nimoy himself, has given me an even greater respect for him.
He is much more accomplished that I thought and is much more than Spock. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the book. It is much more interesting than I expect from a book of this type.

Researchers have confirmed what many of us have intuitively known for most of our lives: the Top 2% of Americans set the trend for clothes, cars, entertainment, even food. But, more importantly, they are also healthier and happier (despite any myths you may have heard), and have greater control of their time.

    Jeff says: "Thorough"

If you have a collection of related works most of this will not be new to you but if you don't this is a pretty thorough course teaching things that you need to focus on to achieve.
It is presented well and is well organized.

  • The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience

    • ORIGINAL (12 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By The Great Courses, Andrew Newberg
    • Narrated By Professor Andrew Newberg

Does God exist? Do we have a soul? Is it possible to make contact with a spiritual realm? How should we respond to the divine? Will life continue beyond death? Most people, whether deeply religious or outright doubters of any spiritual power, have probably pondered these questions for themselves. In fact, the religious impulse is so powerfully pervasive that neuroscience has posed a provocative question: Are our brains wired to worship?

    Douglas says: "A WARNING..."

When a topic like Science and Religious Experience is the focus I have a little caution. Depending on the authors bias and preconceptions the results can be more of a soap box for personal opinion than an objective study.

I did not find this to be the case with this. Through the whole listen I didn't feel any bias was present but rather a thorough study of religious experience and true scientific analysis of possible explanations.

When a solid scientific explanation for something could not be called upon to describe something there is no attempt to try and use that as some sort of proof that it must have a divine source. Nor is a divine source ruled out. It is left as a question.

There is a great deal of information packed into these lectures and I believe it is a great listen to anyone religious to shed light on some of the experiences that can be brought into question and by non-religious to help understand better what religious experience is to a person who has one.

This is by far the best source I have found for the latest research and information on this subject.

  • Pagan Christianity

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Frank Viola
    • Narrated By Lloyd James

Have you ever wondered why we Christians do what we do for church every Sunday morning? Why do we "dress up" for church? Why does the pastor preach a sermon each week? Why do we have pews, steeples, choirs, and seminaries? This volume reveals the startling truth: most of what Christians do in present-day churches is not rooted in the New Testament, but in pagan culture and rituals developed long after the death of the apostles.

Pecos says: "This will make Church Lady verrrry mad..."

I was very pleased with the content of this book.
From start to finish it is full of interesting information. Some books tend to have a certain amount of filler or wordiness to make them book size. This one has none of that. It is interesting and well read all the way through.

  • The Modern Scholar: From Jesus to Christianity: A History of the Early Church

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Thomas F. Madden
    • Narrated By Thomas F. Madden

In the first century of its existence, Christianity was both welcomed and vilified throughout the Roman Empire. Many of Christianity's original adherents were martyred. Christians themselves practiced their religion with great diversity, linked as much to local influences as theology. Political intrigue, theological beliefs, and simple misunderstandings created a need for dialogue between the many practitioners of the growing faith.

Jason says: "Excellent Introduction to History of Christianity"
    "Doesn't sound very scholarly"

I was very disappointed in this book. Not recommended at all.

The lectures felt like he was jumping around and not following a logical progression through history.

It sounds like he doesn't really study the bible as one would expect from a person giving lectures on the history of the church.

There are comments that make it sound as if he really is not a deeply interested in the subject.

To be honest (and I hate to be so negative) I thought it sounded more like he just quickly skimmed through the bible before recording this. There are errors in some of his statements concerning what is actually written.

For people of like faith it is a refreshing collection of encouraging and motivating advice with biblical reference brought in once in a while. For others who don't share his beliefs it is still full of great wisdom that is very relevent regardless of the odd bible verses tossed in which some might not like.
He is a speaker and motivator very highly regarded and comes highly recommended to anyone.
To make it even more enjoyable he has a great sense of humour making it a fun listen as well.

  • Making Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Scott Belsky
    • Narrated By Don Hagen
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

How the world's leading innovators push their ideas to fruition, time and time again. Edison famously said that genius is 1 percent inspiration, 99 percent perspiration. Ideas for new businesses, solutions to the world's problems, and artistic breakthroughs are common, but great execution is rare. According to Scott Belsky, the capacity to make ideas happen can be strengthened by anyone willing to build their organizational habits and harness the forces of community.

Amy says: "Great book. Great plan. Needs more Belsky."
    "Well Read"

I read a number of reviews complaining about the quality of the narration. It kept me from purchasing this book for a while but finally gave in.
I found the narration a perfect speed and tone and easy to listen to. I don't know where the negative comments have come from unless it's been re-recorded and re-posted.
This book is full of very useful information from start to finish. I highly recommend it.

    "Very informative"

I'm not sure how this book rates with people who are taking Psychology as a college or university course but I would guess it should rate high.
The naration is pleasing to listen to and the book is easy to follow and understand.
There is a whole lot of good content and very interesting.
