Jayston is a perfect fit for the Smiley series. First off, Michael Jayston sounds like Alec Guiness, so you are already listening to George Smiley. He also alters his voice and accent for the various characters throughout this book and the others in the series.
The final book of the Tower series was quite a let down for me, but fortunately Guidall was reading it for me. Guidall continued his excellent performance of the characters and kept the story going to the end. Unfortunately, King seemed to just be adding a bunch of words and dredging old story lines. I was imagining when King was talking with Eddie and Roland, they lost interest and left. Later, I imagined Roland wishing he could return to Maine to pistol whip King, saying something like,"if you are going to create a silly spider son, make him scary and tough." This final book had little suspense and frankly, I was tired of the rose description wishing that the king would use a weed wacker. That is a bit harsh, but I was never on the edge of my seat during this book, a position King usually directs you.
