Criminal lawyer and all-time number-one mystery author Erle Stanley Gardner wrote close to 150 novels that have sold 300 million copies worldwide. His most popular books starred the incomparable attorney-sleuth Perry Mason. In The Case of the Curious Bride, a woman claiming not to be a bride consults Mason about her "friend", whose husband, long thought to have died in a plane crash, turns up alive.

What did you like best about Perry Mason and the Case of the Curious Bride? What did you like least?

I am a real fan of Perry mason's stories by E. S. Gardner. But.. The dramatized version is not exactly what I expected.

Would you be willing to try another book from Erle Stanley Gardner and M. J. Elliott ? Why or why not?

I would like to try a BOOK rather than that sort of imitation.

How could the performance have been better?

Actually, this seems to be easy. Just have the book narrated by any of excellent performers like Kit Flanagan, Candy Clark, David Ackroyd, and there are plenty of others.

Do you think Perry Mason and the Case of the Curious Bride needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No.

Would you listen to Kane and Abel again? Why?

No. It is too long and after the curiosity is satisfied nothing left. However, Jeffrey Archer is an excellent story-teller and you stay hooked from the beginning to the end.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Kane's and Abel's children.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Abel's coming to the castle, really moving.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No, it is too long.

    Any additional comments?

Although my evaluation is not very high, I do not regret that I have downloaded and listened to this book. Just this is not something I would like to come back to. Very solid work and excellent performance.

    Top 10%

What was one of the most memorable moments of Are You Afraid of the Dark??

The story is a chain of adventures, always near things, very breathtaking. Cannot distinguish just one. Those who like Sheldon will not be disappointed.

    Which scene was your favorite?

At Saint Sebastian border control. The custom officer is a bright character.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if he/she likes the Sydney Sheldon's type of mystery stories. I have enjoyed the story, and the final comes rather unexpected.

What other book might you compare Sidney Sheldon’s After the Darkness to and why?

Reminds "If tomorrow comes", the same idea of justice and vengeance.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Caitlin Thorburn?

The narrator does not appeal to me at all, poor performance, often sounds hysterica. For me, Angela Dawe or Fred Stella are just perfect.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Gace's meeting Lenny in Madagascar!

    Any additional comments?

Not as good as Sydney Sheldon, but pretty enjoyable. Don't try it if you are not inclined to that sort of literature.

It was his first big murder case - and one of the bloodiest and most violent crimes LAPD detective Danny McGuire would ever encounter. Andrew Jakes, an elderly multimillionaire art dealer, had been brutally murdered in his Hollywood home, his lifeless body tied to his naked young wife. Raped and beaten, the lovely Angela Jakes had barely survived the attack herself. Gazing into her deep, soulful eyes, Danny swore that he'd find the psychopath behind this barbarous act.

Would you try another book from Sidney Sheldon and Tilly Bagshawe and/or Michael Kramer?

Maybe, but Sidney Sheldon alone is much better.

If you’ve listened to books by Sidney Sheldon and Tilly Bagshawe before, how does this one compare?

I have listened the "Mistress of the game." This one is on the same level, but far below "The Master of the Game", Sydney Shelodn's classics!

Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Kramer’s performances?

    Not really.

Did Sidney Sheldon's Angel of the Dark inspire you to do anything?

    Definitely not.

    Any additional comments?

It would be nice to have more Sidney Sheldon's books on the site. There are so many exciting stories.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. In general, I love Mary Higgins Clark's books and this is the first disappointment. The story is too unnatural and the characters are not convincing at all.

What was most disappointing about Mary Higgins Clark’s story?

This inter-centuries murders and the story of a crazy man. I am not a psychiatrist, so not in my line.

What about Jan Maxwell’s performance did you like?

Great! This was the best part of the whole product. Intonations, accents, timining, stresses - excellent!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    None.

    Any additional comments?

Everyone - including Mary Higgins Clark - has its ups and downs. Hope this is just one of the downs and in the future, I will enjoy her books as before.

The book is a great pastime to someone who just wants to relax and forget about stresses and disasters. The language is very educated and performance is brilliant. Action is a bit slow, but this is a matter of taste. I would recommend it to anyone who has a difficult period of life, really helps!

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just a brilliant performance, nothing to add.
