"geared toward teenagers"
This story was very juvenile. I felt it was like something that you might be required to read in high school. It's rather poorly written, meaning the author is just not a very skilled writer and the sentence structures and dialog between characters is very simple. I was able to finish the book, but it was a chore. This story could have been told in half the time. There is a good deal of quotes from the bible and prayer and the romance between the main characters only reached chaste kissing after about 20 dates. Very naive story and the narration was quite bad. I could hear her taking deep breaths at the end of sentences and swallowing, which bothered me a great deal.
"Slowest most boring book I've listened to in ages."
No idea where the 5 star ratings are coming from or how this book won an award. It's so slow I had no interest in any of the charaters or what happened to them, no matter how hard I tried. I kept forcing myself to listen thinking..omg it's got to get better..but it only got less interesting. I listen to on avg 8 books on the best seller list a month and this is by far one of the worst in a very long time. Don't waste your points. It's not even well written with most of the sentences having only about 5 words. How did this book win an award!?!?!?!?!??! omg!!
"Gosh that was a great story!"
I listen to many audio books and try and do a little research and see what other reviewers are saying. This appeared to be a very new release and I couldn't find a great deal of information on it, so I want to let you know - WHAT AN ENJOYABLE STORY!!! It's a long sweeping saga that follows the lives of multiple, intertwined people, but not so many characters as to lose track. I don't want to ruin the story for anyone, so I won't give anything away, but I did not have the ending or the truth figured out! The story kept my interest all the way through. I became attached to the characters and wanted to know what was going to happen to them. The narrator is terrific! If you liked The Secret Garden and The Shifting Fog by Kate Morton - you will enjoy this sweeping family saga too (it's even better than The Shifting Fog 8-O ). It's well written. Characters nicely developed. VERY EXCELLENT ENJOYABLE BOOK! Looking forward to this authors' next adventure in print!
"Could have done without that downer!"
For me the ending ruined this book. It was going along at a 4 star pace, as an enjoyable read, about different woman, all friends, traveling different interesting journeys in life....then the last quarter of the book came along....totally ruined whatever redeeming qualities the book had. I'll say no more, so as not to ruin it for anyone, but if you like an even somewhat "feel good" story, you might not want to read this. Totally a downer ending.
