Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Indian Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear. On the island they are cut off from everything but each other and the inescapable shadows of their own past lives. One by one, the guests share the darkest secrets of their wicked pasts. And one by one, they die....

    Any additional comments?

This book was suggested to me by a co-worker. She was surprised that I have never read an Agatha Christie book before, now so am I. I have been missing out. I am a hospital worker who works the night shift. When I got off work in the AM, I thought I'll listen to one chapter before bed. It turned out, that I could not turn it off. It was exciting. After many chapters, I knew I had to go to bed. Being tired at work the next night, was worth it!

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

If you could sum up Gone Girl in three words, what would they be?

    Intelligent, Twists, Captivating

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, just when I thought I had it figured out, a part of the story made me change my mind. This occurred often until the very end.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I think this is a fun story.

What other book might you compare Divergent to and why?

    Similar to Hunger Games books.

Have you listened to any of Emma Galvin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I thought the performance was great. The tone and pace kept me moving along and interested.
