I would recommend it. It's a page turner as they say. It's my first audible book so I guess I was a virgin. I loved it.
Yes. I listen to audio books on the treadmill. If it keeps my mind off of the total boredom of the treadmill then it is a good book.
Yes. John Grisham like used to love. Page turner.
Good. Not annoying.
I could never listen to a book in one sitting. But this one comes closest.
My goodness what a wordy story. It took pages to hear the description of the backseat of a cab or an empty hallway. The first half was ok but when Theo gets back in NYC it really gets boring.
I read on amazon and goodreads that a lot of people kinda skimmed through the wordy parts to get on with it but the problem is that you cannot do that with an audio book.
I did finish it. Oh and one thing. The narrator is ok but reading the Dutch characters with a German accent is just wrong. But then again I am originally from Amsterdam so I guess I'm biased.
I had just finished The Forgotten Garden, also by Kate Morton. I was so in love with that story that I didn't want it to end. So I bought The Distant Hours and in all honesty it was a bit disappointing.
It is a beautiful story but soooo loooooong. It takes forever for the first 2 parts to finish and especially when you listen to a story that can get boring. I usually start skimming over a few pages if that happens when I read a hard copy but in this case I was trapped.
The story is beautiful though, very nice narration (however if an Australian accent that pronounces schedule as shedule annoys you when the setting is in a castle in Britain then you are warned right now). It didn't bother me that much.
Once I struggled through part 1 and 2 it got better.
I don't usually write reviews but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has everything. Kind of an old fashioned detective story, cool personalities and celebrities. It's very British but contemporary.
I listen to audio books on my runs, I did not even want my 18 miler to end because of this book. But now it's done and there is no next title yet. What to do?
I wish I was you and could still start this book.
I picked this book because I really liked the other comments and it seemed like a book I would enjoy. I have never read anything of Nora Roberts before.
I was pleasantly surprised the first few chapters. But the love story between the main character and Brooks became EXTREMELY annoying and cheesy after a while. The descriptions of their love making were lame and never ending.
I listened to audio books while I run on the treadmill in winter to pass the boredom but seriously I really wanted to stop the treadmill and just skip over those lame love interactions. It's worse than a Harlequin romance book.
The other story line is quite good but I do think the best part of the book is the beginning.
The end is not a surprise.
Entertaining but not great.
I liked the story and characters but I already knew pretty early in the story how it was going to end. Did not like that.
