What disappointed you about Masters of Deception?

The whole thing disappointed me. I stopped listening to this book about 3/4 of the way through. I had listened to Ghost in The Wires prior to this. This book doesn't hold a candle to Ghost In The Wires I'm sorry to say. My advice, skip this one and get Ghost In The Wires.

Told from the viewpoint of an impressionable young entrepreneur named Jay Carter Brown, this memoir quickly dives into the gritty underbelly of the international drug trade. The story begins with minor-league smuggling scams between Canada and the Caribbean that soon escalate to multi-ton shipments of grass and hash from the Caribbean and the Middle East. All goes well for a time, but as the stakes grow higher, inevitable setbacks occur. Drug-runners, police, jealous friends, and rival gangs all contribute to this extraordinary story of a young man who became involved at the highest levels of the drug trade and lived to tell about it.

    Any additional comments?

I think that this is a good book but not a great book. The story was good but there was no real climax to the story. First we did this, then we did this, then we did this etc. He life of smuggling was what it was and I'm sure it was interesting and fun but there was no apex to it.

Kevin Mitnick was the most elusive computer break-in artist in history. He accessed computers and networks at the world’s biggest companies—and however fast the authorities were, Mitnick was faster, sprinting through phone switches, computer systems, and cellular networks. He spent years skipping through cyberspace, always three steps ahead and labeled unstoppable.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ghost in the Wires to be better than the print version?

This is the kind of story you find yourself going out of your way to listen to. Great read and a great story!

In his outrageous memoir, McSweeney's contributor Kennedy chronicles his misadventures at a major record label. Whether he's directing a gangsta rapper's commercial or battling his punk roots to create an ad campaign celebrating the love songs of Phil Collins, Kennedy's in way over his head. And from the looks of those sitting around the boardroom, he's not alone.

    Overall

I thought this book would have some fun, insightful stories about the music industry but that was not the case. A book seemingly written by a high schooler without much creativity. Dan is no wordsmith. So many words used to describe so little. Who edited this book? Anyone? If this is all of the substance and poorly constructed prose it takes to get a book published, I think I will start one myself. There are too many other great book out there to waste the time and money on this one. Next please.
