This sequel to the Hugo and Audie Award nominated METAtropolis features interconnected stories by today’s top writers of speculative fiction – performed by a galaxy of Star Trek stars. As the mid-20th century approaches, the Pacific Northwest has been transformed - politically, economically, and ecologically - into the new reality of Cascadia. Conspiracies and secrets threaten the tenuous threads of society. And the End of Days seems nearer than ever.

Some of these stories are good, some not so much. But overall an interesting read. If you are a dyed in the wool sci-fi fan, you may want to pass on this series. Most of these stories don't rate as sci-fi, and are primarily intended as thought-provokers with underlying social commentary.
If you are seeking good science based sci-fy I would suggest not spending the time (or credits).

On the morning that will mark the end of the world they have known, Molly and Neil Sloan awaken to the drumbeat of rain on their roof. It has haunted their sleep, invaded their dreams, and now they rise to find a luminous silvery downpour drenching their small California mountain town. A strange scent hangs faintly in the air, and the young couple cannot shake the sense of something wrong.

This is absolutely horrible. The worst effort ever from Koontz.
It has been some time since the author has produced a good story, and with this he has hit bottom. I see this as a joint effort by him, the publisher and all the publicists (including audible) to make a buck from the nearly guaranteed income from staunch fans.
    Not worth the time.

C.J. Box’s Open Season is a rare debut mystery that “immediately sets itself apart from the crowd” (Booklist). This thrilling novel stars Joe Pickett, a game warden in Wyoming who finds his life in danger after he looks into a murder investigation and discovers a conspiracy involving an oil pipeline and its threat to an endangered species.

C.J. Box and William Kent Krueger are the same person. Craig Johnson is personality #3. 'Nuff said. If you like one, you'll like the other two as well.

I believe they are gnomes typing away in that great big assembly line of book publishing in the back of Santa's workshop.

Assigned to protect her, Secret Service agent Bo Thorsen soon falls under Kate's spell. He also suspects the accident is part of a trap set for Kate by David Moses, an escaped mental patient who once loved her. What Bo and Moses don't realize is that they're caught in a web of deadly intrigue spun by a seemingly insignificant bureaucratic department within the federal government.

The Cork O'Connor series have given me some great listening hours and good stories. The brisk, matter-of-fact way of writing, and the dialogue straight from the cuff worked well with the country sheriff idea. Here - not so much. Well, I should say not so much of it.
The story just didn't grip me, and seemed to draw out slowly. Can't say I'm impressed, nor that I really cared for the effort over-all.

I have to recommend a pass....

For the majority of this book I was waiting for something to happen. Anything.
It started out with some promise, seemed interesting, and then just wandered away. It seemed like an attempt to reach a certain word count or something. The main character just seemed to make improbable, inexplicable decisions - one right after another. Not very believable.

After hours and hours of listening, it finally takes us to an incredibly disappointing and trite ending. I mean, really Mr. King. Really?

I am so done with King. I have said this before, but it seems every time he releases a new book, I think that maybe (just maybe) he will find it again and give us the kind of book we were used to seeing from him (remember those good ol' days?).
But after multiple disappointments, and buying some real stinkers in the process, I'm done.
    No more King for me.

The award-winning author of the best-selling Cork O’Connor series, William Kent Krueger pens novels with pulse-racing suspense. In Windigo Island, the corpse of an Ojibwe girl washes ashore, and locals at the Bad Bluff reservation believe it to be the work of the mythical Windigo. But the dead girl’s friend is also missing, and sheriff-turned-PI Cork O’Connor will brave any danger to bring her home.

I got hooked on this series a few months ago, and listened to a lot of them back-to-back. Most were interesting, but as the series progressed, I found myself getting a little annoyed with the 'visions' and references to the spirit world. I even found myself wishing that the old man Henry would bite the dust.

Mr. Krueger has gotten enough of my time. I'm done with this formula soap-opera

Joe Spork repairs clocks, a far cry from his late father, a flashy London gangster. But when Joe fixes one particularly unusual device, his life is suddenly upended. Joe's client, Edie Banister, is more than just a kindly old lady - she's a former superspy. And the device? It's a 1950s doomsday machine. And having triggered it, Joe now faces the wrath of both the government and a diabolical South Asian dictator, Edie's old arch-nemesis.

This started out with great promise, and the story was interesting enough to have my attention all the way. But about two thirds of the way through it suddenly had characters doing 180 degree spins in character, and the original plot disappeared for at least a dozen chapters, replaced by some kind of rambling psycho-James-bond kinda thing. Totally weird. I honestly think the author had a mental event while writing this.

    Would definitely not recommend.

This book started with such promise, that I thought I'd settle into a good listen. Unfortunately the author's ability to craft a believable plot doesn't measure up to his writing ability. Very well written, but the plot is just to unbelievable for me. I can get into good sci-fi, mystery and even spy novels, but not Norse cults of Oden that secretly have members at the seats of power, even within the FBI. Sorry, this one is just too far fetched !

This started out with some promise, and had me interested early. Unfortunately, it was all down hill after the first few hours. Terribly trite dialogue, very poor characters, and a plot based on a technology not very well developed or explained. Oh yeah, and there's Nazis too.
The only thing missing was a skimpy dressed blonde breaking a heel while running from the aliens!
Save your credits for something worthwhile.

novel. I'm pleased I listened. Story had me a bit confused at first, but after a bit things began to settle. Unique story line. Could have spent a bit more time with the characters - there was little there beyond the dialog. If you appreciate good character development, where you feel you know the people involved, you'll be disappointed for sure.
