Someone recommended this to me, and though I typically like this kind of story, I found this one very confusing and hard to follow. I agree with the other reviewer--there were parts that made me want to keep listening, and some parts that were so dull or confusing I'd find my mind wandering.
I found the end very disappointing. I really wanted a lot more information about the characters.
The performances were all excellent.
I don't think I'd recommend this book, and I'm pretty generous usually with recommendations.
I really didn't think this could possibly be as good as Discovery of Witches, but it was! Just amazing-- and now I am crying over having to wait a year for the last book. Don't miss this series, it's really wonderful.
This series is so clever and interesting. In between books 2 and 3 I pondered the end and Suzanne Collins still surprised me! I really loved it, even went back to listen to the last hour again after I was done because I was sad it was over. I really appreciated the epilogue that gave the listener/reader an insight into the future. I would have liked a bit more information about some of the others.
The series as a whole is pretty violent and Mockingjay is the most. I heard recently that 5th graders in my town are reading it and I think it's too violent for that age. But I think anyone over 14 or 15 would find these books give them a lot to think about and are a very interesting story. Adults will definitely find the books intriguing. I don't actually think it should be marketed as a Young Adult book, but it was probably done that way merely because the characters are mostly teens.
Some people have criticized the reader. I actually like her a lot in this book, because I think she conveys well the ambivalence Catniss experiences at every crossroad.
I was riveted to the very end. Loved it, and am sad it's over.
I read this book a couple of years ago and loved it. Now that I'm commuting I thought it would be a good listen, but I found it rather tedious. Sometimes I found my mind wandering. I remember thinking it was hard to read, and I guess I rushed through the parts I found slow and relished the others.
The narrator was very nice to listen to. I am now listening to "Son of Witch" and the author recorded the narration, which is disappointing. He's a much better writer than reader.
I have to say, though, that this is one of the most clever books I've read and heard. And I think it's too bad they didn't follow more of the story in the musical. Maybe a movie?
I loved this book! It was so clever and smart, it had me from the start, and I couldn't put it (my iPod!) down. I was so sorry when it ended....
I ordered this book because it sounded interesting and it was an Audible Bestseller, which is usually a reliable recommendation. I have to say, though, that this was one of the most unsatisfying books I have ever read/listened to. It was very long, and after some 15 1/2 hours, I would have liked the story to tie the details together. Instead, it left so many loose ends it seems like the author just wrote what he did to coerce us into buying a sequel. It took a while to care about the characters, too, and when I finally did, the book ended without telling me what happened to them. I would not recommend this book.
