"good review of history"
I enjoy Civil War history and this book is no exception to the thorough study I would expect of this author. The reader is very good and the outline of the battle and surrounding events leading up to the engagement is well researched. I would recommend this to Civil War buffs and plan to read more by this same author.
"extraordinary in every respect"
I have listened to hundreds of books from Audible but the narrator of this book is the best I have ever listened to bar none. Great writing and great narration equals a truly delightful experience.
"booring"
weak delivery voice; too much detail on subject matter that could be readily and fully explained in a more succinct fashion. Good research however.
"boring"
too predictable, too much "filler" dialogue and very simple theme...first and last of Cussler books for me
"a good yarn"
A bit long winded in spots but overall this is a story that is not only possible but the tale is believable. This story kept me interested and I did not want to turn off the player when reaching my destination...I love books like that, doesn't everyone?
"another winner from Wilbur Smith"
Wibur Smith knows how to keep you entertained and is constantly providing a description of life in SA that is interesting to say the least. A great writer. The narrator, Simon Vance, is excellent and his diction portraying each character is superb. A really good yarn.
"boring and tedius"
The story is disjointed and the plot is weak. The description of living in Russia during the Stalin reign is interesting but this does not compensate for the lack of drama or intrigue which I would have hoped for in a murder novel.
"long winded"
I had high hopes for this first book I've read by author Mr. Webb but come away with great disappointment. It was long-winded and frankly, a boring dialogue lacking in a plot that was never developed. It seemed as if there was a lot of "filler" to make the book much longer than necessary. The reader is excellent and can deal with foreign names with ease. I have listened to other books by this same reader and all have been delightful.
"Straight Man"
With such a high rating, I was anticipating a really good read but was sorely disappointed. The book is, frankly, boring. The dialogue is clever and the author has an excellent command of the language and sentence structure. Not enough I am afraid...I found myself shutting off this book to listen to other choices. Just did not hold my attention.
