The book examines the different meanings of justice. The author dialogues with philosophers that reflected about this question and its implications. The arguments are exposed in chronological order and each chapter posed a modern discussion where a particular notion of justice can intervene. The narrative is clear and understandable even for foreigner like me. Good and insightful introduction in the field of moral philosophy.
This is a very insightful book. Thomas Kuhn delivered an intelligent account about how the sciences develop. More precisely, development by disruption and not by acumulation. Listening to this essay, one can reflect about the idea of progress. It seems that the sciences advance with rejection of old paradigms and creation of new ones, the last don't necessarily linked with the formers. Can we say the same thing about the development of humanities? The narration is fair and the audiobook is from a book edition that have a foreword by the author, in which he answers some criticism the original version received.
The book offers an overview of Philosophy. Some importants subjects are exposed (How do we know? What is philosophy?). Some philosophers receive special atention (e.g., Descartes). The vocabulary of philosophy is explained and importants concepts are examined. The text is well written, but lacks a more systematic approach. The performance is clear and in British pronunciation.
The book refers to the firsts decades of America Republic. The story relates to the presidencies of Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison. The challenges and the struggles of the early Republic are exposed with clarity and enable the listeners to understand the development of America's political institutions. The performance is fair, providing a good listening experience.
Eric Metaxas wrote a carefull biography of a man intended to live accordingly with the Bible. His narratives about the events that composed Bonhoofer life allowed the reader to understood the dilemas faced by this man of God. By listened to it, one will have a good account about Bonhoofer's life, family and dificulties. Bonhoofer's life inspired every cristian who desires to live in a significative manner.
The book covers a broad range of political ideas. The chapters give useful information about relevants questions in political theory in order to enable the reader (listener) to make further studies. The narration is clear and understandable. Great academic work.
The book traces the history of philosophy's tought from the presocratics to John Dewey. Bertrand Russell presents the ideas of majors thinkers of the period and the social enviroment in which they live and work. The author discuss the diverse concepts and gives his reasons of agreement and/or disagreement. The narration of Jonathan Keeble is good and has distinct emphasis that help the listener/reader understanding of the work. Definitely an insightful reading in philosophy's field.
This is a introductory story of philosophy. The author reffers to some important philosophers. The book begins with greek philosophy and ends with "contemporary" american philosophy (George Santayana, William James and John Dewey). Some of the greatest thinkers were there. The reader should not expect though an exaustive exposition. The story is straight and give relevant insights about the works of the philosophers examined. The narration is good, specially for a foreig like me.
The work deals with difficult and important themes with superficiality. The questions are posed and examined without sufficient debate. The audiobook presents a good introduction to the questions related to faith and reason. One must go ahead in order to gain more information about philosophy of religion.
The book is a classic. The narrative in the audio version is clear and understandable, even for foreign like me.
