"Very scholarly ....sometimes good, someties boring"
This is a series of articles on different aspects of the Civil War. It is somewhat entertaining but only in the sense that a college course might be entertaining. There is a lot of good information but it is presented in a more technical and scholarly way.
"Great book, Great Narrator...Yes it's true!"
This was overall a great book and a great listen. I was put off initially by all of the negative reviews about the narration. They were true in that the narrator mispronounced a lot of words. Yes, I agree it is distracting and yes, where is the editing that should have caught these gaffs. If you can set aside the mispronunciations the narrator did an outstanding job. My favorite was the pronunciation for pseudo. He pronounced it sway-doe. It took me just a bit to figure that one out. Just see it as a game and get beyond the mistakes. Otherwise the writing is very engrossing and the narration is one of the best I have experienced (with the caveat about mispronounced words). Definitely 5 stars.
"Good in a few places, average to boring in most"
I had high hopes for this book but overall it was a disappointment.
My title says it all for me.
"Good book, great character"
I enjoyed the character of Alexander Hamilton better in a previous book by Chernow but this book on Washington was a better and more interesting read/listen.
"Throw the politicians out before it's too late!"
Oops we already tried that.
Great history and great recommendations about what to do from here.
This is a very worthwhile read/listen. Given our political landscape and the calibre of our politicians and electorate I believe we have ten to twenty years before our currency collapses and/or we default. Our nation is on an unstoppable downward spiral. Nice job on the book though.
"4 stars if you like Gandhi, 2 stars if you don't"
If you enjoyed the movie Gandhi you will probably enjoy this book. It adds more interesting details on a personal level. If Gandhi is not your thing the the book will not be a page turner.
"Worth the listen"
Good insight on the inner workings of a Moslem led government. This proves the value to me the value of a separation of church and state.
"Too much swearing for me"
I love war history but have had to give up on this genre of books. Try Unbroken for a fantastic read and story. Unbroken has a very bare-bones minimum of foul language.
"Good story"
It was amazing to me how little these art treasures were valued by the FBI hierarchy and how few resources were allocated for their recovery.
"The book is much better than the radio show"
I gave up listening to Savage and Hannity on the radio years ago because of the caustic and disrespectful way they treat their call-in listeners who dare to have an alternative point of view. I myself am very conservative and have given up on the Republican Party also. The Republicans are so close to the Democrats in philosophy and actions that there is realistically no major political options for the average American. I believe Ron Paul is the only current politician who offers any viable political alternatives to our current economic and political mess. I also believe Ron Paul is unelectable and is just a voice in the wilderness. The American politicians from both parties are taking a course of action that will sooner or later lead us to an economic crisis that will lead America into chaos. Just how soon is the real issue.
"A real guy with some Hollywood episodes"
I enjoyed this book. Patrick and his wife came off as real people who, despite living and working in Hollywood, maintained their marriage and perspective.
