Coming out to Mom is a lesbian rite of passage. In the third edition of this landmark anthology, 34 remarkable women face their fears and confusion, prejudice and misunderstandings, and speak honestly and bravely about the difficulties and joys of life with their "different daughters". Among the topics of discussion are family, community, religion, grandchildren, bisexuality, transgenderism, and coming out.

Would you try another book from Louise Rafkin (editor) and/or Brenda Grace?

Not from Brenda Grace, what a horribly slow narrator! This book would have been 3 hours long if the narrator didn't have such a slow pace and dull tone. It makes all mother's of lesbians sound dumb and lame...

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Brenda Grace?

    Jane Lynch... why not? :)

Amazon.com started off delivering books through the mail. But its visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now.

Stanford Professor Robert Sutton weaves together the best psychological and management research with compelling stories and cases to reveal the mindset and moves of the best (and worst) bosses. This book was inspired by the deluge of emails, research, phone calls, and conversations that Dr. Sutton experienced after publishing his blockbuster best seller The No Asshole Rule. He realized that most of these stories and studies swirled around a central figure in every workplace: THE BOSS.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. I could hardly follow this old sounding narrator.

What was most disappointing about Robert I. Sutton’s story?

What I could listen of the story was ok

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bob Walter?

A younger, more energetic reader. Bob Walter sounds like an old and tired man.

If you could sum up The Martha Rules in three words, what would they be?

    Usefull, insightful, captivating

Martha. She's like an iron lady.

Have you listened to any of Martha Stewart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    I haven't

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Martha is not the greatest reader. She's much too strong, her voice lacks sympathy or softness. She's too monotone at times.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book is surprisingly more boring than I expected, and flows in a slow and confusing way.

Would you ever listen to anything by Anjelica Huston again?

    Probably not.

What aspect of Anjelica Huston’s performance would you have changed?

I usually love books read by actresses, as they make incredible narrators, unfortunately this is not the case for Anjelica Huston.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

This book might actually work better as a movie but I wouldn't be particularly interested.

Nosotras, Opening the Door to Our Love Life, which has all the ingredients of a novel, is in fact true and autobiographical. The book covers the last four decades of the life of Ofelia Fox, wife of the owner of the famous cabaret Tropicana of Havana, who went into exile and became the first female Spanish radio personality in Miami. She later co-authored Tropicana Nights, The Life and Times of the Legendary Cuban Night Club. Ofelia met Rosa Sánchez and, unexpectedly, they became love partners. Their relationship lasted over four decades.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If there was more of a story and less trying to convince the listener that this was an exceptional love story

Would you ever listen to anything by Rosa Sanchez and Ofelia Fox again?

    No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    The narrator is horrible

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Boredom

In this searing, unflinchingly honest book, Portia de Rossi captures the complex emotional truth of what it is like when food, weight, and body image take priority over every other human impulse or action. She recounts the elaborate rituals around eating that came to dominate hours of every day, from keeping her daily calorie intake below 300 to eating precisely measured amounts of food out of specific bowls and only with certain utensils. When this wasn’t enough, she resorted to purging and compulsive physical exercise, driving her body and spirit to the breaking point.

Where does Unbearable Lightness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was enjoyable, above average, though not the greatest but I enjoyed it. Would buy again.

What about Portia de Rossi’s performance did you like?

She was a good narrator, but can sound angry too often.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

    Any additional comments?

It's good overall, even though most of the story is very oppressive, except the long epilogue.

Best-known as Glee’s sharp-tongued Sue Sylvester, Jane Lynch’s on-screen persona is someone that many love to hate. But when she’s not prowling the corridors in Sue’s shiny tracksuit, who is the real Jane Lynch and how did this Golden Globe and Emmy winner learn to channel such delicious nastiness? This is no typical Hollywood memoir of torment, grief, regret and plastic surgery. It’s a simple but candid story of how a girl from Chicago came to Hollywood, overcame her demons, and finally hit the big time.
