  • Good Boss, Bad Boss: How to Be the Best... and Learn from the Worst

Stanford Professor Robert Sutton weaves together the best psychological and management research with compelling stories and cases to reveal the mindset and moves of the best (and worst) bosses. This book was inspired by the deluge of emails, research, phone calls, and conversations that Dr. Sutton experienced after publishing his blockbuster best seller The No Asshole Rule. He realized that most of these stories and studies swirled around a central figure in every workplace: THE BOSS.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. I could hardly follow this old sounding narrator.

What was most disappointing about Robert I. Sutton’s story?

What I could listen of the story was ok

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bob Walter?

A younger, more energetic reader. Bob Walter sounds like an old and tired man.

Living on her family’s gorgeous lakeside estate in Cornwall, England, Alice Edevane is a bright, clever, inquisitive, innocent, and precociously talented fourteen-year-old who loves to write stories. But the mysteries she pens are no match for the one her family is about to endure ...One midsummer’s eve, after a beautiful party drawing hundreds of guests to the estate has ended, the Edevanes discover that their youngest son, Theo, has vanished without a trace.

I found this book to be interesting and well narrated, but overly long. It really didn't need to be 22 hours long. The end is just too much, too perfect. Despite that, I do recommend it if you have 22 hours to kill.

What would have made Stop Depression, Overcome Sadness and Grief better?

The script is not relaxing, it's more like a depressing lecture on how it is you who's creating your depression. It made me angry

Would you ever listen to anything by Joel Thielke again?

    I'm not sure

What about Rachael Meddows’s performance did you like?

Rachael Meddows has a great voice for this kind of audio

What character would you cut from Stop Depression, Overcome Sadness and Grief?

Throughout her career, Cameron Diaz has been a role model for millions of women. By her own candid admission, though, this fit, glamorous, but down-to-earth star was not always health-conscious. Learning about the inseparable link between nutrition and the body was a life-changing lesson.

At some point every one of us embarks on a journey to find love. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with the hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection. This seems standard now, but it's wildly different from what people did even just decades ago. Single people today have more romantic options than at any point in human history.

The author thinks he's just too funny, but he's not. Some of his jokes are unbearably lame, like proclaiming repeatedly that the voice he's using to enact a character is just some voice he made up, not the real character's accent. And again, and again. He thinks it's the best joke ever. Most of the humor is lame.
The information is actually pretty good and accurate.

Every morning, A wakes in a different person’s body, a different person’s life. There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere. It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply....

I listened to this book the way you would watch a chick flick, just looking to be entertained. It was easy to listen most of the time, though at times it got redundant and boring. I loved the narrator's voice from the very beginning. She does an outstanding job bringing this story to life.

Where does You Lost Him at Hello rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book should be taught in school. I wish I had read it sooner.

What did you like best about this story?

    The dating principles

Would you be willing to try another one of Julia Farhat’s performances?

I hope not. The narrator can be slow. I honestly wondered if it was a computer voice at times.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Don't give away your "bullets" too early in the relationship

If you could sum up Down the Rabbit Hole in three words, what would they be?

    Unnecessary yet entertaining

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kendra. She was my favourite character in the show as well. Holly does a good job imitating her.

What aspect of Holly Madison’s performance would you have changed?

I would have advised her not to fake a british accent when reading the quote at the beginning of each chapter. I had to skip forward every time. Annoyingly ridiculous.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"It was up to me all along" - The life of Holly Maddison
