1913 - Suffragette throws herself under the King's horse. 1969 - Feminists storm Miss World. Now - Caitlin Moran rewrites "The Female Eunuch" from a bar stool and demands to know why pants are getting smaller. There's never been a better time to be a woman: we have the vote and the Pill, and we haven't been burnt as witches since 1727. However, a few nagging questions do remain...Why are we supposed to get Brazilians? Should you get Botox? Do men secretly hate us? What should you call your vagina?

Louis C.K.'s unique observations of everyday life go way beyond politically incorrect and his views of human behavior are more than hilarious in this stand-up event. Filmed at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, WI, C.K.'s performance proves he is every bit the title of his special.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

    No

Has Hilarious turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

    Nothing

    Any additional comments?

A big part of Louis CK's act is visual, many of the jokes on this album suffer, or are completely lost because we can not see facial and bodily expressions. Better of getting a DVD.

    Story
    (12)

Postmodernism claims that "modernity", which grew from the Enlightenment to the Industrial Revolution and Marxism, has collapsed. We now live in an endlessly "contemporary" culture, a virtual world of "hyperreality" containing such strange phenomena as post-Holocaust amnesia, Disneyland, cyberspace, and Fukuyama's proclaimed "end of history".

    Garrry says: "Good intro."

What did you like best about Introducing Postmodernism? What did you like least?

It did cover the topic broadly

Would you recommend Introducing Postmodernism to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably not. I think there are better intros to this subject area

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

These questions are stupid. This is a non fiction book!

    Any additional comments?

    OK but not great

Survival of the Beautiful is a revolutionary new examination of the interplay of beauty, art, and culture in evolution. Taking inspiration from Darwin's observation that animals have a natural aesthetic sense, philosopher and musician David Rothenberg probes why animals, humans included, have innate appreciation for beauty - and why nature is, indeed, beautiful.

In this series of essays, Roger Kimball, managing editor of the New Criterion and an art critic for the London Spectator, examines the current art scene with a scathing intelligence and a crystalline eloquence of writing style. Particularly amusing are his dissections of art-show catalogspeak.

What is art? Why do we find some things beautiful but not others? Is it wrong to share MP3s? These are just some of the questions explored by aesthetics, the philosophy of art. In this sweeping introduction, Charles Taliaferro skilfully guides us through different theories of art and beauty, tackling issues such as who owns art and what happens when art and morality collide. From Plato on poetry to Ringo Starr on the drums, this is a perfect introduction for anyone interested in the fascinating questions art can raise.

If you could sum up Aesthetics: Bolinda Beginner Guides in three words, what would they be?

    Clear, informative, accessible

Would you be willing to try another book from Charles Taliaferro? Why or why not?

    Yes

What about Andrea Powell’s performance did you like?

    Very good

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but it did make me more aware of what areas of aesthetics are interesting to me and give me ideas of what i would like to look into more.

    Any additional comments?

As an art student, I found this a very helpful introduction on the topic of aesthetics. It covers a broad range of artistic practices, painting, literature , film etc from both western and Asian context. Best of all it isn't full of the jargon and long incomprehensible words that has kept me from reading art literature in the past.
