I just started to listen to books while driving home from work. "La" was a great escape to another time and place at the end of a busy day. McCall Smith captures the small things that make up a woman's life with great insight. He never fails to please. Emily Gray narrates with style!

The anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history—how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the bloody saga of America's Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of increasingly harrowing battles. President Abraham Lincoln's generous terms for Robert E. Lee's surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln's dream of healing a divided nation. But one man and his band of murderous accomplices are not appeased....

    Story

A history we should all know puts the final days of the Civil War and Lincoln's death in a new perspective. Much as I love O'Reilly, his choppy delivery can sometimes be distracting, but take this more as a riveting history lecture than a thriller and get into the story.

A story of youth and promise, of loss and the search for love, of secrets and destiny, Blackwood Farm brings together the Vampire Chronicles and the story of the Mayfair Witches, and is Anne Rice at her mesmerizing best.

K E Courchaine says: "She is back!"
"Like a hive of vampires, Rice drones on."

    Story

Interesting enough to get you started but there's little action. Having read all the earlier Mayfair witch books and the Vampire Chronicles, I thought this would be a good blend of the two. Rice gets into so much needless detail as the main character tells his story that one thinks it will never end. Needs more Lestat.

But violent death is inescapable, even in the apparent sanctuary of the Literary and Historical Society - where an obsessive historian’s quest for the remains of the founder of Quebec, Samuel de Champlain, ends in murder. Could a secret buried with Champlain for nearly 400 years be so dreadful that someone would kill to protect it?

The intelligence of the entire Inspector Gamache series of Three Pines Mysteries is remarkable. I've fallen in love with this "Brigadoon" of a village and it's quirky inhabitants. What will happen between Clara and Peter? Learning more about the personal lives of the main characters with each revealing book. Only two books left in the series — I hope more are on the way!

He's one of America's most recognizable and acclaimed actors: a star on Broadway, an Oscar nominee for The Aviator, and the only person to ever win Emmys for acting, writing, and directing, during his 11 years on M*A*S*H. Now Alan Alda has written a memoir as elegant, funny, and affecting as his greatest performances.

Couldn't get past chapter 5. What a bunch of hooey! Maybe it's better when Alda narrates. I doubt it.
