Good reader couldn't save this over-written prose, cardboard characters and some of the most ridiculously inaccurate sterotyped military "culture" I've seen in a good while.

I really, really found the constant changing of readers annoying and disconcerting.

Would not recommend. I made it half way through before giving up and most of that on will power alone.

The book itself is somewhat disingenuous in that I thought it was a fictionalized biography of an interesting historical character. Turns out to have little of him in it and a lot (LOT) of drivel about his family, friends, the state of Russia that he grew up in - he is a peripheral character in most of it.

Having been a long term devoted Jack Reacher fan we looked forward to this new audible book. Sad to say the reader is one of the worst we've heard and absolutely trashes the book with a pseudo-East Coast tough guy accent that is both inappropriate to the character and almost painfully bad to listen to. Skip the audible version!

Pretentious, self-absorbed, unrealistic, but no point in going on. They sucked me in, but don't waste your money on it.

The book is not "noir" - it is clinically depressing. Compound that with a reader who mumbles in a fuzzy British accent. I listen while driving and with the volume up to painful levels could follow about half the book's text. I am an avid audiobook fan and lasted for one hour into this one on sheer willpower. Avoid it!

Fairly poorly done sci-fi, but what really kills it is the tedious enuciate - each - word - painfully - laboriously reader. Worse, the gent doesn't even pronounce nautical terms correctly!! I list to a LOT of audiobooks but couldn't make it through this one!

The story is actually more interesting that I expected but after one hour I gave up and deleted the book from my ipod. The variation in volume as Shatner reads his own book varied from 'way to loud to inaudible and ultimately drove me away.

The main character is a immature loser who stays that way through the whole book. Nothing profound, deep, or amusing, simply shallow self-indulgence. Couldn't care less of the protagonist lived or died. Kept hoping it would get better but gave up at 2/3 through - don't waste your money!
