Camp David, USA. A birthday party turns into a nightmare when a child is snatched after the celebrations. The First Lady enlists the services of Sean King and Michelle Maxwell to bring the child home safely. But she and King share a past. Years ago he saved her then senator husband from political disaster. And this may not be all that passed between them. With Michelle still battling her own demons, the two are pushed to the limit, with forces aligned on all sides against them.

Not one of Baldacci's best. The plot in itself has potential, but ridiculous plot twists and totally implausible situations prevent you from buying into the story.
The narrator is decent, but it's hard to like anyone telling this preposterous story. At one point the narrarator reverses his male and female voices during dialogue between characters.
While I've enjoyed other Baldacci novels, I found myself glad to be done with this book. I would not recommend it.

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime. She lost everything-her badge, her career, her freedom-and spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own, and prove she has the right to wear the uniform.

If you were a fan of books like Absolute Power and Split Second....move on an continue being a Baldacci fan. I started it, stopped, started again, and finally gave up about halfway through.
The story is weak, the characters are cliched, and on top of that the narration is awful. Good audiobooks hook you and make you look forward to your next chance to listen. This book irritated me and made me turn it off several times to enjoy the silence.

  • The Company: A Novel of the CIA

"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says (Publishers Weekly).

This book has ruined other espionage novels for me. Every time I listen to it, I am disappointed when it ends. The author blends true historical events with a "what could have happened" behind the scenes look at history. The characters are well developed, and you follow them over nearly 50 years as the story develops.
My favorite audiobook. If you listen in the car like I do, you will find yourself looking forward to your commute.
