In Sins of the Fathers, Susan Howatch takes the reader into the world of the very rich, a family divided from generation to generation by a great fortune and the consequences of a terrible secret that lies at the very heart of their wealth.

Listened to this directly after The Rich Are Different, the story just continued here. It was a very long story and I enjoyed every second. Love Susan Howatch, if you have never read her books, I strongly recommend.

Melody Beattie has been a trusted counselor for millions of people for more than 25 years. Her books are infinitely relatable, flush with candor and insights, and rooted in firsthand experience. Make Miracles in Forty Days is punctuated with Beattie's own stirring stories of overcoming obstacles and dealing with life's tragedies.

What disappointed you about Make Miracles in Forty Days?

I think that Ms. Beattie must have considerable clout otherwise I cannot imagine anyone agreeing to this performance. I have tried to listen to this relatively short book twice now and cannot get through it. I can't find out her secret to miracles because it would take a miracle for me to listen to that much droning! Loved her other books and their narrations were just fine.

Would you ever listen to anything by Melody Beattie again?

    NEVER

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Melody Beattie?

    Anyone

In Codependent No More, Melody Beattie introduced the world to the term codependency. In The New Codependency, she clears up misconceptions, identifies how codependent behavior has changed, and provides a new generation with a road map to wellness.

Where does The New Codependency rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book has too many exercises for it to be totally effective as an audio book. The original "Codependency No More" was much more helpful for me. I listen to the original over and over and get something new each time. This one, I think one listen will be enough.

In Atonement, three children lose their innocence, as the sweltering summer heat bears down on the hottest day in 1935, and their lives are changed forever. Cecilia Tallis is of England's priviledged class; Robbie Turner is the housekeeper's son. In their moment of intimate surrender, they are interrupted by Cecilia's hyperimaginative and scheming 13-year-old sister, Briony. And as chaos consumes the family, Briony commits a crime, the guilt of which she shall carry throughout her life.

William R. Creech says: "Well written; well read."

This was so much different than I expected. I had only seen the previews for the movie so I had a preconceived idea of what to expect. This story was well rounded and did an excellent transition during the time span. I totally enjoyed it.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

It took me a little while to get used to the narrator but once I did I was amazed at what a great job he did on this story. I had read the book a couple of years ago and thought that it was an okay book, listening to it was so much better. I know that I picked up on a lot of nuance that I missed the first go around. I would recommend this listen to anyone who thinks that it might be up their alley.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "An Enjoyable Listen"

The use of both young and old readers really did this story justice. It's a great story with very likeable characters. I would recommend this one to anyone.
