"Gone with the Wind, lite"
I liked this because I love Civil War novels. The cloe relationships betweent the Northern & Southern families added a new dimension.
"Things never change..."
I was fascinated by the scientists who devoted themselves to finding a vaccine, the desperation with which they pursued all avenues. And, the ignorance of people who continued to spread the disease after being told to stay home, away from crowds, etc.
"Frustrating!"
This was a good listen, but at times you just wanted to reach in there and tell the woman that she needed to "Run, Save yourself!"
"Like old friends"
The narrator.
I lvoe that Trixie is a regular kid...at least, she is as opposed to Nancy Drew and others.
I found many of her voices merely whiney instead of different.
I can see the series of books as a TV series. I don't know any child actors....Back in the day a blonde Molly Ringwald would have been a good Trixie; Lisa Welchel, Honey;
"The Battle Continues"
The feeling of being familiar with the characters.
It begins to tie up some loose ends, while creating others
Madeline. She has a very difficult path.
The battle continues....
"Excellent all the way around"
I would rank it in the top ten, among Atlas Shrugged, Unbroken, East of Eden, Grapes of Wrath, Fall of Giants, Gone with the Wind, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
It's hard to find a favorite character. There weren't many admirable people.
The way he changed his voice, evoking classes and prejudices.
A Perfect Storm of Classes
It was interesting to see some of the characters recognize their own faults, only to be unable to do anything about them.
"One of my best listens"
Yes. There is so much insightful material beyond the actual plot. I would like to listen more closely to those passages.
No.
"Heartbreaking"
One of the best.
Excellent story, good narration.
Good performance of multiple voices.
Could have done without the harmonica interludes between chapters. Gave me headaches.
"Lovely"
I have not read the print version.
The ending was predictable and a little too much romance novel-ish for me.
Her voice is lovely.
"Not what I expected"
Yes. It is very informative.
It wasn't really a story. I thought I was buying true crime, but it was more like a textbook. However, that turned out not to be a bad thing.
Which one of us is it?
It makes you look at people you've known differently. You start thinking, maybe they weren't just jerks, maybe they were really sick!
