From the New York Times best-selling author of A Heartbeat Away and The Last Surgeon comes a shocking new novel at the crossroads of politics and medicine. What if a well respected doctor inexplicably goes on a murderous rampage? When Dr. John Meacham goes on a shooting spree, his business partner, staff, and two patients are killed in the bloodbath. Then Meacham turns the gun on himself.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

There is a lot of timley information on genetic engineering in this cliff hanger novel.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I tried to turn off my ipod to save some of the story for later but couldn't do it. Had to listen to the whole thing in one gulp!

Have you listened to any of Robert Petkoff???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first time listening to this reader. He has a wonderfully expressive voice. He makes the novel into a performance rather than someone reading from pages of a book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is a book that could be true, it could actually be happening as we go about out daily lives, unaware or not wanting to be aware of what is being done to our food supply. Not a laughing matter although the sarcasm expressed by Dr. Welcome was an enjoyable way to lighten up an otherwise terrifying plot.

    Any additional comments?

Michael Palmer is a wonderfully informed person which makes his books realistic and enjoyable.

A terrible fire in a wealthy suburban home leaves a married couple dead and Detective Lindsay Boxer and her partner Rich Conklin searching for clues. As with all James Patterson novels, I had to listen to this all in one day. He had his usual multi-plots flying although they were rather convoluted and felt like I had entered two books instead of one. I love his Women's Murder Club stories though and as usual, could not put this one off until it reached the end. Especially loved the end. The narrator was a bit stiff in the beginning but it seemed like once she got into the story, even she became more of a performer than just someone reading stiffly out of a book. All in all, it was an attention grabber and an excellent read.

In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son's red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragic story of the year - a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned. His body was never recovered. Ten years later Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life...until Aiden returns.

I especially enjoyed the fact that the plot was believable, the characters were real and had realistic problems. The plot gave the listener a sense of hope and the ending was somewhat of a surprise. A genuine 5 star book.

For me, a book is a continuing experience. And the books by Tess Gerritsen are so intense and with such good plots that one listening is not enough. I usually put a book aside for a month, even a year and then one evening, when I feel the need for entertainment, I go to my library on Audible and choose a book by one of my favorite authors and listen again. There are things I missed the first time around that I notice on second listening. I love these surprises. George Guidall is not just a narrator of books. He is a performer of the story. He makes both the male and female roles come to life. Thank you Audible for allowing us to have such high quality experiences when we order a book.

You're hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.

Although the plot kept my interest, I was way ahead of the main character in knowing what was going to happen next, right up until the very last word. I usually enjoy a book more if I don't know who is doing what to who until mid way thorough. There were also some very grim parts that were not done very well and the whole thing was a bit klutzy. However, I did listen until the end so it must have at least kept my attention. The reader was grand though. Georgia Maguire should be your next great reader.

Stephanie Harrington had always expected to be a forest ranger on her homeworld of Meyerdahl until her parents relocated to the frontier planet of Sphinx in the far distant Star Kingdom of Manticore. It should have been the perfect new home - a virgin wilderness full of new species of every sort, just waiting to be discovered. But Sphinx is a far more dangerous place than ultra-civilized Meyerdahl, and Stephanie's explorations come to a sudden halt when her parents lay down the law: no trips into the bush without adult supervision!

This is a story for everyone who can appreciate the bond between humans and non-humans and who can respect life in all its many forms. Cats don't usually play major roles in literature. Mr Weber's cats are believable since they never lose their feline quality. They are allowed to be their own species while still having hope of being able to communicate with open-minded humans. A very enjoyable listen.

I first read this book as a regular book. Apparently a lot has happened since. Margaret Atwood must have written this while gazing into a crystal ball. Thirty years later it's all beginning to come true except for the outfits. Really scary. Felt like I was reading a news report instead of fiction. Excellent writing. dreary subject. Pay attention and don't let it happen.

It's the middle of the night. Prosecutor Alexandra Cooper is called to Harlem's Mount Neboh Baptist Church, a beautiful house of worship originally built as a synagogue. But the crowd gathered there isn't interested in architecture, or even prayer. They've come for the same reason Alex has: to find out why the body of a young woman has been decapitated, set on fire, and left burning on the church steps.

As usual, Linda Fairstein made her book just a little too complicated to guess the entire plot by the first chapter. She has a wonderful way of tossing in background knowledge so that I learn interesting facts along with the entertaining fiction. The plot was complicated but easy to follow. The characters were believable and the narration, as usual with Ms. Rosenblat, was like a really talented theater troupe playing the roles live on a stage. Another great listen.

When Alex discovers that a woman from the wreck and the congressman's lover have the same rose tattoo-the brand of a "snakehead", a master of a human trafficking operation-it dawns on her that these cases aren't as unrelated as they seem and that the entire political landscape of New York City could hang in the balance of her investigation.

At nearly 100 years old, Thalia Mars is a far cry from the patients that child psychologist Alex Delaware normally treats. But the charming, witty woman convinces Alex to meet with her in a suite at the Aventura, a luxury hotel with a checkered history. What Thalia wants from Alex are answers to unsettling questions - about guilt, patterns of criminal behavior, victim selection. When Alex asks the reason for her morbid fascination, Thalia promises to tell all during their next session. When he shows up the following morning, he is met with silence: Thalia is dead.

The real talent of Jonathan Kellerman is that he introduces us to new characters one at a time so we can get to know them, their names, their personalities and their place in the story before he goes on to the next new character. He builds a picture for us, not only in words but in visions of what's happening. He guides us down the path that Dr. Delaware is taking with his friend Milo Sturgis and never loses our attention in unnecessary detail. So although Heartbreak Hotel has more people in it than some of Kellerman's other books, we are never lost in a maze of Who's Who. Great book. Very entertaining. A good way to get rid of the stress of the day. And of course, John Rubinstein's voice is tone-perfect for both Dr. Delaware and Lt. Milo Sturgis. Can hardly wait to meet them again in the next book.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

The overall plot was excellent until the last quarter where the book turned into a slightly silly monster movie. It would have been much better had the hero and his followers found themselves in a scary and dreary parallel Universe where they were in danger of being killed by events that we had narrowly avoided in our current Universe, like the Cold War having turned "hot" or the Nazis having won WWII. Overall though, the narration was excellent and the idea of the mystery building was really scary fun.
