The set-up of Mark Haddon's brilliant new novel is simple: Richard, a wealthy doctor, invites his estranged sister Angela and her family to join his for a week at a vacation home in the English countryside. Richard has just re-married and inherited a willful stepdaughter in the process; Angela has a feckless husband and three children who sometimes seem alien to her. The stage is set for seven days of resentment and guilt, a staple of family gatherings the world over.

What did you like about this audiobook?

I was so excited to find this book after reading The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Nightime. I expected the same ingrossing read, but it just wasn't there for me. I was so bored by the characters that I couldn't finish listening to the book. It might have gotten better, but I had better books to listen to, so I did.

In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible. They’re called "brilliants," and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in.

There's an old saying: if you eat a live frog first thing each morning, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it's probably the worst thing you'll do all day. Using "eat that frog" as a metaphor for tackling the most challenging task of your day, the one you are most likely to procrastinate on, but also the one that might have the greatest positive impact on your life, Eat That Frog! shows you how to zero in on these critical tasks and organize your day.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It was like listening to the same song over and over. The same small message: tackle your ickiest job first thing and get it out of the way. There, i've saved you from listening to the same thing said over and over, wasting 2 hours and 39 minutes of your life. You are welcome.

When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren’t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed—a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy’s trip to heaven and back.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I was disappointed. This is more a self-indulgent story of the boy's father than of the boy himself and his journey to heaven. Luckily the book was short and I was busy in the garden or I wouldn't have bothered listening to the whole thing.

Would you ever listen to anything by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent again?

    Not Todd Burpo

    Which scene was your favorite?

    The End

Did Heaven Is for Real inspire you to do anything?

    No

Kat Richardson’s New York Times best-selling Greywalker novels star one of the genre’s most fascinating—and fan-favorite—heroines: PI Harper Blaine. In her sixth adventure, Harper travels to the Olympic Peninsula for a pre-trial investigation. There she meets the spirit of a man who claims he was murdered. Harper’s search for answers leads her to a resort the locals call Blood Lake. A malevolent power lurks beneath its frosty waters....
