I LOVED this book. I thought I would try a book that was a bit outside of my norm (I usually go for the Stephanie Plum type books). But I wanted to see what a book with an openly gay main character would be like. And other than it being a driving plot vehicle, it was not a turn off. Since I have a person very close to me who is gay, I wanted to see if their world was really different than mine (nope, its not -- except for the super hero part!) :)
Listen to it. Its great. I would recommmend it to teenagers -- especially those who are struggling with their sexuality or know people who are struggling.
I cried at the end. I will definately look for more books by Perry Moore.

I think this book will make a great movie one day -- and it will probably make alot more sense to me then. But until then, I'm leaving this on my (imaginary) 'why did I buy this book' pile.
Its not that well written. It took me a good 2 hours (at least) to get 'into' the book. I did learn alot about scientific stuff (specifically chemicals) and how they affect the environment/water. It does have action in it, some suspense, alot of the main character's thoughts.

I liked the characters. I liked the plot IDEA, but it did not keep me involved (especially at the beginning). On a desert island, it would be an adequate book to read, but I think that there are other books out there that deserve your $$/credits more.

1) it was boring. I finally gave up on it -- it kept putting me to sleep (so buy it if you have insomnia!!). I finally gave up on it - and I finish basically all books I buy.
2) it is NOT like Harry Potter books, other than its about a couple of kid wizards
3) its not funny. its not 'riveting'. its not interesting.
4) normally I don't comment on narrators, but this one didn't do it for me at all.
Please don't waste a credit!

I have listened to alot of Carl Hiaasen's books and enjoyed them all. I was SOOO disappointed with this one. It never 'grabbed' me -- i just trudged through it. Don't waste a credit on this one. I can recommend Hoot, Flush, Scat (all 3 for kids - but they are good for adults too), Skinny Dip, and Nature Girl.

Didn't realize that it was going to have such a overt Christian theme. Its rather a trite story and just didn't 'grab' me. Don't waste a Credit.

AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. The narrator does her best -- she is very good. But the material isn't there. The book is jumpy. It doesn't flow. The characters aren't developed. Suddenly everyone is in love -- but you don't believe it. I was extremely disappointed. Not at all like her later books (which I love)

While I did learn a great deal about the dead, I can't say that I would recommend this listen to anyone else. I found it repulsive and gory at times and just TOO MUCH. For some reason I stuck it out to the end -- unsure why. I'm not that squeamish, but it really did get to me -- especially towards the end when they talk about eating mummies. The speaker does a great job. She delivers in a very 'every day' voice that takes away alot of the gory (no Vincent Price here). There is humor in this book and she delivers it well, but its just too 'out there'. It was a waste of a credit.

I love mysteries -- especially English ones -- but I just could NOT get into this one. Don't bother.
