A very richly detailed, dark story of turn of the century New York City. I don't quite agree with the narration choice. I think a younger sounding man would have been a better choice but George Guidall does a good job.
I've purchased the second in the series and am currently listening to it.
I love the interplay between the main characters and can't wait to find out more about Rose and Assad.
After I listened to this, I bought all of the author's other books. Great storyteller and funny as all get out. She did what all women have secretly thought of doing at some point in a relationship!
Excellent story. Progressed nicely with good character development. I've read other Andrea Kane books but this is the first one that I've bought on Audible.
I loved the mystery and medicine in this book but the female love interest was very bland. She mainly batted her big doe-eyes and waited to be rescued.
I'd never read Elly Griffiths before but I loved the characters and the story. Just when I thought I knew who it was, she fooled me.
I've since bought all of the other books in the series and now am unhappy because I have to wait for the next one!
I like historical mysteries and this one was set a little further back in history than I normally like but Ruth Downie has written a fantastic series of the Roman empire.
The narrator does a great job with the voices, for the most part, but I don't like the way he does the main woman character.
The characters are well developed and real; even the secondary characters are complete and very human with good sides and flaws.
Good at voices but made a few slips, using cockney for Dr. Watson at times and I kept thinking of Mr. Peabody (old cartoon character) when I heard Sherlock Holmes.
I didn't like the first book very much but had bought the first two at the same time so I went ahead and listened to the second. James Marsters narration has gotten much better and I've since gone ahead and bought the whole series, up to Book 12!
I love the gentle picture it portrays of Precious's life and work. She's interesting without being dashing and it reminds me of something like a Jane Austen or Agatha Christie work with the detail and pictures of Botswana life.
I loved this book and bought ALL of the audio books in the series. I'm only sorry that I have to wait until a new one comes out to hear the rest of the story!
The narrator is perfect; she brings all of the characters to life without out being intrusive.
