"Maximum Recommendation!"
Well worth it!
The narrator for this book was amazing. He was able to give personalities to the dozens of characters in the book each with a unique European accent. Amazing!
"Too abstract and wandering for most readers..."
This book has definitely turned me OFF of Faulkner.
The plot is too thin and the chronology is so complex that is doesn't translate well as an audiobook.
"Well narrated, but terrible plot!"
Yes! The book is very boring and tedious (there is literally 5 hours of a woman taking care of poorly behaved children) and then there is no ending to the book! It just stops and basically says, "Buy my next book also to see what happens with the lady and the bad kids". I wish I had my time back!
Yeah, because the stupid thing didn't have an ending!
"Weird in some places!"
There were all of these weird sound effects (wind whooshing over sand dunes - really!) and narrator changes that were not consistent throughout the book. It would have been much better if the primary narrator had just read the book the whole time.
"Oddly read..."
Sometimes I felt a little racist listening to the narrators attempt at sounding like a poor black person. It was very well done, but I'm not sure if it SHOULD have been done...
"A great listen, but sometimes tough to follow!"
It's way to much for one sitting and since the book doesn't really have an end, it's best digested in small pieces.
Sometimes the narrator will repeat sentences, paragraphs and even entire chapters in this recording. Very odd...
