As a decorated soldier, the young General Tao knows only one kind of honor—to his people. But when his own king betrays him, he discovers that his sacrifices, his successes, may not have been for the good of the country at all. Fate—and his enemies—throw him together with Elsabeth, a red-haired beauty who has served as the royal tutor. Her loyalties, though, remain with her father's people, the rebellious Kurel, who worship the old ways.

Would you try another book from Susan Grant and/or Elizabeth Jasicki?

Maybe, as I have enjoyed her books in the past but this was disappointing, boring, and not what I expect from this author. I will bw careful of my next purchase from this author.

Has The Last Warrior turned you off from other books in this genre?

Absolutely Not! I love this genre and have enjoyed this author in paperback in the past. This was my first real loser from her.

What three words best describe Elizabeth Jasicki’s performance?

    Can't overcome bad story!

What character would you cut from The Last Warrior?

    The book....

    Any additional comments?

What else can I say? This is one of my returns from disappointment. It happens.

Something in Space Opera. Fantasy has been a big disappointment the last few new tries.

What three words best describe Anne Flosnik’s voice?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Ship of Destiny?

The entire book. Didn't listen to it all but everything I heard was boring.

    Any additional comments?

Bought this with a valuable credit as I've been hearing the author compared to Briggs and Bujold. What a crock. Don't listen to others when they compare authors, it's subjective.

Charlaine Harris' smash-hit Sookie Stackhouse series may have reached its conclusion, but the world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, lives on in this all-new collection of 15 stories. Written by a killer lineup of authors, including New York Times best-sellers Rachel Caine, MaryJanice Davidson, Jonathan Maberry and Seanan McGuire, and with introductions read by Charlaine herself, Dead but Not Forgotten puts your favorite characters center stage.

What would have made Dead but Not Forgotten better?

Maybe some cohesiveness in the stories or perhaps authors who actually could write anything worthwhile in the world of Sookie Stackhouse.

What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?

They were boring, disjointed, unappealing stories written by authors with no feel for the world Charlie Harris created. I don't think a single story took me back to the world I enjoyed since I picked up the first book within a month of it's publication and never stopped waiting for the May edition of the continuing story until about 2 books before the end.

How could the performance have been better?

It couldn't have been. The performance was fine but how do you make a silk purse out of a pig's ear? The authors, including Ms. HARRIS were to blame for this abomination of the world of Bon Temps. Not one author was capable of creating a scene like one of my stand-out favorites... Eric bowling for vampire heads at the wedding of his Queen to the King of Arkansas.

What character would you cut from Dead but Not Forgotten?

The authors and the editor for the crimes against their readers. Create something new for us to pay our hard earned money to enjoy escaping reality. This reminded me of all the bad remakes Hollywood recreated of our childhood heroes and cartoons. Flintstone anyone? How about the Avengers (not to mention the rape of Mission Impossible with Mr. "MOOOM, Tom Cruise won't come out of my closet" and his unrealistic Hollywood Hype schmaltz. This felt the same...get rid of everyone who agreed rape the perfection of a great story trying to do a remake. Shame on all of you.

    Any additional comments?

What more can I Say? This was like Hollywood trying to redo Casablanca with today's actors and writing. AVOID AT ALL POSSIBLEILITIES If you liked Skokie and here world anywhere near as much as I did.

Where does To Honor You Call Us rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the middle. Just what I was looking for right now, a light and enjoyable take off on Star Trek TNG characters but not a stellar new idea. Not great but fun and easy to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dr. Whatshisname. I am terrible with names but this main character is very like Star Tree's doctor in The Next Generation. Nice Arabic Muslim without the religious prejudices we live with today. He's brilliant, somewhat effete, and often clueless. Very entertaining without being overbearing in his brilliance. My second favorite has to be "Will Robinson" (the smallest of the little boys starting their careers in the Navy.

What does Ray Chase bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His different voices for each major character were just right. This fails in book 2 but in this book the narration is spot on IMO.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it merely made me smile (which is a good thing right now). This isn't a stand out book with an exceptional plot and fabulous writing, just good plain entertainment with a few issues. It flows right along with the Star Trek theme in a "save the human race" war, the brilliant newly minted captain, and the highly educated ship's doctor who is also a brilliant diplomat (surprised? ) with no real new ideas or plots. Just what I was looking for right now.

    Any additional comments?

There are some "in jokes" that don't seem to quite work out. At one point there's a comment about a message to "speak Friend and enter" where the Captain (a cajun human with the annoying but believable name Maximila) reads this message with the doctor and comments it's a little frightening when he is reminded of one of his favorite childhood books where that is written on a gate which leads the company to a bad place (Lord of the Rings) but then he goes on to say something about the author Arthur. This may be in the next book but it was such a glaring "hunh?" moment it put me off my pace and made me wonder what the heck was going on. Was he referring to Arthur C. Clarke as writing Tolkien or was something in between left out or what? Other than a couple of these moments I enjoyed a nice light ride with this book.

The second book is more of the same and would have been just as enjoyable EXCEPT the narrator screwed the pooch for a listener who went right into the next book.....He CHANGED THE CAPTAIN'S VOICE! I spent this entire book listening to Captain Max with a younger man's voice then go on to the sequel where Max is now talking with the hoary old Admiral's voice from book 1. A real NO NO in the world of narration! Messed up my frame of mind.

Would you try another book from Patricia Briggs and/or Lorelei King?

Absolutely! I started reading Ms. BRIGGS religiously right after her first Mercy Thompson book (Blood Bound) came out. Eventually I was so satisfied with her Thompson books I started buying her older books and enjoyed those as well. At this point I have already read just about everything this author has written and can heartily recommend everything she has written so far except The Alorn books.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would like to see more interaction with the main characters of the series and just generally more cultural experiences / history / background in the story. My favorite books in this story include River Marked and Iron Kissed so I think what I enjoy most is learning about the cultures created in these books and Frost Kissed didn't have enough of this for me.

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Always a good listen.

Did Frost Burned inspire you to do anything?

Yes! Pray for the authors future work.

    Any additional comments?

PLEASE don't loose the magic, Ms. Briggs. Create a new series if need be. I have been so disappointed by Charlaine Harris deterioration of her Sookie Stackhouse series, Hamilton's Anita Blake books went South really fast, and even the last installment of one of my favorite Looooonng series, Bujold's Vorkosigan series, showed signs of this "no longer up to par" performance for the first time. I won't even start on Nora Roberts In Death series.....why do i keep buying these? Generally every author who continues their series for over 5 to 8 books grows old and repetitive or unimaginative. Create a new series if need be. I have great respect for Harris coming out with her short lived but very satisfying Grave series about the time Sookie was getting old, then ending that series before it could grow old. I could barely finish her last few Dead book. This installment of Mercy feels like it's going the way of the author hanging on too long to a hit after the inventiveness / creativity is gone. I like nearly all Ms. Briggs worlds. If you don't have a new twist for Mercy (and I LOVED your Coyote and Indian cultuural twists in River Marked) write your next book in a new world! Tell us what happens next in Where Demons Walk. Your writing is enoyable and I don't want to see you go stale playing the big hit too long....like so many other authors I could name. I hope to be enjoying your books for many more years.

What disappointed you about Endless Knight?

I couldn't finish more than a third of this book before stopping and getting a good fantasy to take the bad taste out of my ears. I bought both in this series and want to return both to minimize my suffering, if you like teen fantasy that's not terribly mature this may be for you,. I'm enjoying space opera righ now,

What was most disappointing about Kresley Cole’s story?

The characters were too juvenile to get involved in.

What didn’t you like about Emma Galvin’s performance?

Nothing. It was the story I couldn't continue with.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Kresley Cole is a good writer and I have enjoyed some of her books, this series is just based on characters I found immature and irritating.

    Any additional comments?

Perhaps if I were into juvenile angst I would enjoy this in the future.

Where does Nine Princes in Amber rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very much in the middle. ..which means it was worth the credit! Not a favorite but then I read the written series "long long ago in a universe far away" when it was being written. I liked the Amber series then but it was never an auto buy qnd I never read every book as the series dragged on.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Don't believe I would change anything. I have pretty much forgotten the series and enjoyed rediscovering this story. It is a little medieval in an alternate universe. No complaints.

What about Alessandro Juliani’s performance did you like?

As I don't remember, it must have been okay but nothing to rave about. Since I gave him 4 stars immediately after listening to the book he is a good narrator but not the top (of which there are very few).

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not so much. Compared to my favorite authors which include Bujold, Eric Flint's 1632 series, David Eddings Belgarion and Mallorean series (not to mention the GREATS like Heinlein and Tolkien) this iw an interesting story and a series I will continue to follow when I need a new read and can't find one I REALLY want.

    Any additional comments?

Good solid story and writing. If you like Game of Thrones or Christopher Stasheff's Wizard series you will likely enjoy this series. Beware. ..like the Ringworld books and other series I seem to remember that there's a lot of books in this series.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one. I carefully read the reviews and remember the complaints about the NARRATOR. I thought, narrators are often complained about and it doesn't seem to bother me that much. WRONG!!! This is by far the worst narration I have ever heard.

I thought I would try this, as I've run through the books so far of authors I really enjoy. I generally like witch stories and fantasy/paranormal both light and dark. I'll give this author a try. Well, if the Powers That Be are trying to ruin this author's book-on-tape career they are doing a great job.

The narration was flat, monotone, and truly annoying. I certainly hope no other aspring author gets stuck with this Narrator! As for the story....who could tell? I gave it an extra star in sympathy for the horrible packaging here. And if possible I would give her Narrator minus 5 stars.

What was most disappointing about Juliet Blackwell’s story?

    The narration.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Xe Sands?

I can't say. I don't pay attention unless someone like Nora Roberts replaces the narrator of her in Death series. But I will have to remember this one and avoid her.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Captain Ivan Vorpatril is happy with his relatively uneventful bachelor's life as a staff officer to a Barrayaran admiral. Cousin to imperial troubleshooter Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan is not far down the hereditary list for the emperorship. Thankfully, new heirs have directed that headache elsewhere, leaving Ivan to enjoy his life on Komarr, far from the Byzantine court politics of his home system. But when an old friend in Barrayaran intelligence asks Ivan to protect an attractive young woman who may be on the hit list of a criminal syndicate, his chivalrous nature takes over. It seems danger and adventure have once more found Captain Vorpatril.

If you could sum up Captain Vorpatril's Alliance in three words, what would they be?

    Finally Ivan's turn!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Byerly Vorrutyer is just such a baaaad boy...and so much fun. Since his introduction into this series he's been such an enigma, and almost as much trouble as Miles. Byerly takes on more personality here and we learn just a taste of his history. I certaiinly hope we get to read further of his adventures in Jacksonian Space with his blue cherie amor.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The tunnel scene at the end. The GEM grandmother and her family are just too entertaining in their frenzied search for riches. Then again, Ivan's first meeting with his Princess and her sister, all the way through Byerly showing up at the girls' apartment is pretty entertaining also.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Keystone Cops of Barrayar!

    Any additional comments?

As with every one of the Vorkosigan books, this is another winner. It will never be on my top 5 list (or top 10, either) as the story line lacks something I can't quite define. Cetaganda is my least favorite and Shards, Barrayar, Memory, Komarr and Civil Campaign are probably my top 5. Then again, that list could change when I listen to some of the older ones again. The one thing I didn't get here was that it felt as though Aral was still living on Sergyar even though he passed away at the end of Cryoburn (another good installment).

As I commented above, the story wasn't a 5 star as it lacked some of the traditional surprise elements I have come to expect in Ms. Lois' Vorkosigan books. The storyline here was a bit too expected in my opinion (as in "I saw that one coming"). Very unusual for this author. So only 4 stars here for the story. But then almost every one of h installments has been a 5 star listen for me....very unusual. Perhaps this is because I've been anticipating this so long it couldn't live up to my vaunted expectations?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutley! One of my favs in the last year. Started with #7 on sale and was so impressed I just bought the first book and am now starting #4. Missing work to listen through the series! Picky about my purchases and this enire series is worth the credits.

What other book might you compare Cast in Courtlight to and why?

I enojoyed his book as much as my first read..#7. First book was good but 2 and 7 are my favorites so far. More adult with less of the erotica in many female fantasy reads. It's one of my top listens the year if not the best. Enjoy it as much as my Bujold Vorkosigan series or Flints 1632. Highly recommend the series. Kind of an Eve Dallas story set in a fantasy world.

What about Khristine Hvam’s performance did you like?

Good solid performance. Did have a bit of trouble following some of the characters due to a lack of more than a couple of accents and the confusing names.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Only the insatiable desire to get through the entire stories 7.5 books ASAPP.
I know it's good, as I have ignored work for nearly a week now.
