"Dissapointed by end of series"
The first book started off great, I had high hopes for rest of series. The end of the first book was not bad but the whole style and pace of the fantasy changed. The second book I wanted to stick a nail in my eye when the author talked about love (perhaps due to my cold heart). He had creative plots ideas but really needed to just slow the pace down and focus on the quality of the writing. I loved some of his characters, Vye (or however its spelled) must be among my favorite women in fantasies, but like every character in this book she is unrecognizable by the end. Truth is I am very angry about this series, it had such potential by the third book a new plot twist was revealed every chapter like any bargain bin fantasy. I might give the author another shot but I have many more worthy authors to spend my money on before then.
"Outdated writing"
I am a huge fantasy fan but the Hobbit has an old writing style meant to appeal to children yet full of violence and monsters. Tolkien is an incredibly original and talented person who put tons of detail and depth into creating middle earth (although most of the detail is put into the lord of the rings books). But just because this book is incredibly influential to all subsequent fantasy, it doesn't make it an interesting and compelling read. I struggled to get through this audio and it is only 10hours. I have high hopes for the movie though because the lord of the rings movies cut away most of the dryness of the books.
Sorry I have no time for nostalgia, get this book if you do.
"Fast paced and fun"
This fantasy has a pace and style unlike any others I have read(listened) to. The mood of the book is always light, and the author doesn't slow down the story for the sake of trying to describe the world/ atmosphere. The first half of the book was hilarious and fun. My only issue with the book was that the second half of the book was not nearly as funny and some of the characters disappeared from the story line. Also the second half of the book didn't seem to have the same significance to the major story arcs the first half did. In a matter of taste I am not sure this fantasy shares the style my favorites do but I will certainly read the next book in the series.
"The reader is terrible and I can not get past it"
I can sense great potential in this series but the reader is horribly terribly awful. I had to re- listen to many sections of this audio. He is too slow when he reads which makes the book progress at a snails pace. His accents are annoying, and I hear the same accents carry between different characters. The main character has a squeaking boys voice and he still sounds like a 6 year old when he close to a decade older. David Eddings why do you have such bad taste in readers because now I cannot possibly enjoy the series. The revelations in plot made me foolishly get the next book. I have yet to touch Sister of sorcery (or whatever its called) and for this I curse you Cameron Beierle.
