The richness of the characters. The way each "race" has foibles and strengths.
I don't love Rob Inglis's voice for this triilogy. Got over it as time went on.
Exquisite writing and performance! This book has everything I want:
Enough (but not too many) rich characters with special skills
Explorations into the power of relationships and community
Insider perspectives into diverse cultures and religions
The complex flavor of New York City
I'm eagerly awaiting for your next book, Helene!
This story is so uniquely creative and exciting I couldn't stop listening. You're in for a treat if you like fantasies with interesting cultures and characters who have special skills and magical abilities. Give it time at the beginning because it's a flashback.
Diana Gabaldon manages to top her first four books in the series with more interesting perspectives on women's rights, medicine, sex, love relationships, integrity while weaving a great story about the years leading up to the Civil War. It's hard to put this down and get to work!
Jamie - he has very complex psychology, a good heart, physical power and is very sensual
Incredible versatility in character's voices, Scottish brogue and British accent.
