26 hours seems like a very long book, but actually the length of this book is one of the reasons that I picked it. I was looking for a great memoir of a great person. Someone that would inspire and entertain me.I also wanted to get my moneys worth. I have never been a Barbara Walters fan, but I am now. I don't agree with a lot of her politics, but that is beside the point. This book is like sitting beside her as she is talking to her best friend. Its so candid and unscripted. I feel as though she has given me so much information (carte blanch) that I understand her and others who are like minded to her in a much fuller, richer way. I have only finished one quarter of this book to date. I wil update this review as I get further into the memoir. If you are the kind of person who people watches and pays attention to little details of a persons mannerisms and personality and listens to a persons history in order to get information about who they are and how they became this way, then this book will not disappoint you.If you want to get to the meat and potatoes without all of the back story and history, then move on to a different memoir.By the way I have never reviewed a book before so I hope this helps you.
I just finished listening to this book again this year. I cant believe how much more I got from this book the second time around. I have 10 acres in central Texas, we have a flock of chickens and a small heard of goats and of chourse cats and dogs and some other animals. We are by no means a realy Real farm. We are however working towards being a realy real farm, the kind that is self sufficient for the most part. I have looked and looked for guides on the audible web sight for helping me get started with being a real (small scale) farmer, to no avail. This book was the closest thing to having a friend and neighbor who knows the ins and outs of running a small farm as you can get. One of the reasons that I chose this book was its length, I want to have a good long book. I will likely read it again this spring, the insights are Excellent, the explinations of gardens, plantings, flock care, culling, harvesting, cooking, etc, etc are second too none. I very highly recomend this book!
I have only gotten thru half of this book, but I can tell you that it is a very interesting book, very informative.
Oh my Gosh, I had no Idea what a funny talented southern Belle Kristin is. I Absolutely LOVED this book. I dont EVER read stuff that is light or lithy, but this book is light and sweet and serious and interesting. I could have listened to another ten hours of her stories. Many many people will identify with her humor and dry wit. I absolutely recommend reading this book.
I listened to this book about six months ago, and can hardly remember any of it. I will share with you what I do remember though. Very elementry, not for a seasoned grown up christian. I didnt finish this book, because it was kinda like reading a first grade primer. I took a moment to relisten again to a few seconds of this book to see if that would jog any memories of the book for me. It did, it reinforced my boredom with it. OK this book would work for my mother who is 62, and maybe for a new christian woman who is NOT young, NOT under 40 years old. Dont give this book to a "thinking type" give it to the "emotional Sanguine type". I would have liked this book if I were not such an analytical and non emotional type. It has a great message and heart, just not a read for me
Look I am a born again Christian who loves to read inspirational books about faith. I also like any good book that is challenging and intelligent and cerebral. I absolutely LOVE BETH MOORE. But this book is kinda slow and boring. If you have a very good working knowledge of the bible, and primarily the gospels, then this book may be too elementary for you. Yes, Beth does have a very warm way of bringing the listener in, but Im not a mushy gushy woman. If you are a mushy emotional woman who wants to get into the head of some of the gospel authors then this will probably be a good fit for you. If however you are a bras tax, show me a formula and a reason for the system type, then this book will bore you also. It was sweet and fine for a lot of people, just not for me.
I could not believe that in a book that is this long, you could have such a huge lack of details about the characters. I spent hours with the characters, but I still dont know them from Adam. I can however describe the dress the heroin was wearing in great detail. This writer is a man who is writing about what and how she does what it is she does, but he failed miserably to make her real or intelligent or anything other than a lying, manipulative, sick, sad and very shallow character. All of this would be fine if he was writing from the point of view that she is all of those things, but he does not, he writes a story where she is a heroin, who is understood by him (not me ) and celebrated. I just could not believe that I had been duped into listening till the end. The last two thirds of the book are so.................long and boaring. I thought time and time again "this book will get good soon, it will shock and enthrall me soon" Needless to say, it didn't. I was told of this book by a very good friend who is a 60 year old man. He swooned over it, Said the author really got into the main characters head (Sarah), now Im left wondering if my friend is actually some intellectual who gets this author in a way that is far deeper than I do, or if he is just like the author "DENSE".If you are the type to analize a character and the motives and the sub plot, then stay far away from this read. If you can get caught up in a book without analyzing or thinking about obvious discrepancies, then this might just work for you. I hope this helps
