I waited anxiously for this book. This has been one of my favorite series. The lighthearted and funny demeanor combined with great like-able characters and superb narration more than compensated for the simple plot lines. Overall (up til now) its been great fun listening to this series.
With this book, the great characters (most of them) are gone, and dozens of new characters with unpronounceable names are hurriedly introduced, and they immediately begin trying to lay the ground work for a complex back story by telling lengthy stories about more characters with unpronounceable names in places with unpronounceable names.....all of this being narrated in the same manner as the previous stories, which just doesn't work.
Bottom line: I turned it off after a couple of hours. I would prefer to remember Atticus and Oberon as they were before. Bummer.
I really enjoyed the Michael Forsythe series, and Gerard Doyle is a great narrator, but this book was boring and slow. Waste of a credit
Really like the narrator. Surprisingly good. Story was actually kinda mediocre for one of King's books, but one the whole not bad. Plot line didn't have the depth of most of his other work.
One of the best books I have listened to yet. Great plot line, characters, and narration. Definitely going to get the next one.
I was expecting something with a similar tone as the Mistborn series, but this is more like The Beyonders if you know that series. It's a decent book in its own right, but this one has more of a comedic super hero tone. Not what I was expecting from Sanderson.
I enjoyed the first book, but this one was way too slow and the narration was a bit annoying.
The plot moves along and develops a bit more, but this is really just the same as the last book with a different setting. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I liked the other books a good bit.
This one is pretty consistent with its predecessors - if you enjoyed them you'll probably like this one. Not much else to say, really.
This one is pretty consistent with the first two - if you enjoyed them you'll probably like this one. Not much else to say, really.
I'm not a huge fan of military sci-fi, but this one has some pretty nice twists on the standard pattern. For the most part the characters are likeable and the plot is interesting.
The best thing about this series is the long list of imaginative creatures and characters. Just when you expect him to run out of ideas, Brandon Mull comes up with another unique idea. Lots of fun, this book, and the ending doesn't disappoint.
