    B. Dawson says: "Good Book"
    "Decent content - awful reader!"
    Overall

Seriously? Is this the best guy they could get to read this book? This guy is without a doubt the most annoying reader I have encountered thus far.

Imagine the worst impression possible you could make of an ultra rich Connecticut blue blood. This guy sounds like a caricature . The inflection the guy puts on the end of every sentence is just grating to listen to. You will know what i mean if you choose to listen to this.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There are some interesting concepts in this book. I enjoyed some of the rules surrounding use of magic, but overall this reminds me of Al Bundy recalling his touchdowns at Polk High.

The characters are forgettable and the world is not very well defined. You really don't get a sense of the landscape of the world or it's boundaries. You do understand there is a university. Overall this is a pretty thin world with some OK character development.

Slow moving story with annoying characters in a poorly defined world.

I just don't care for the characters that were developed and will be moving on to find another fantasy series that can hopefully suck me in. Maybe I need to finally bight the bullet and read Robert Jordan.

Would you ever listen to anything by Patrick Rothfuss again?

    No

Have you listened to any of Nick Podehl’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. The narrator carried the story, providing some good character voice work.

Was The Name of the Wind worth the listening time?

It passed the time. It wasn't completely terrible. I would say "maybe"

    Any additional comments?

It's a pass for me. Didn't suck me in but I did get to the end. I think I need to start reading every fantasy book that get's one star. I am feeling pretty out of sync with the visitors of this site and the fantasy books that they enjoy.

Would you try another book from Elizabeth Moon and/or Jennifer Van Dyck?

No I would not. After reading this book you have no real clear understanding of the fantasy world they live in, either it's boundaries or customs. You have very little depth of attachment to even the characters you do get to encounter.

You really don't even know the main character or care about her even a little bit at the end of this so called story.

What was most disappointing about Elizabeth Moon’s story?

The fact that nothing really happens, you don't care at all what happens and that you just want it to end. I'm really surprised I got to the end. When the protagonist get's in a bit of trouble at the end you really could care less if she is eaten by wolves or makes it back.

You don't know her at all, and thus just have a distant interest in the fact that at least something is happening in the story.

Which character – as performed by Jennifer Van Dyck – was your favorite?

It's been over a month, I have forgotten every character in the book. Is character too strong of a word for this?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The narrator was good. Good narration and I wouldn't hesitate to read another book read by this narrator

    Any additional comments?

    it sucked

With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book spends most of the time having a pity part for the "bastard" boy. There is some decent character development and some interesting intrigue. You get some hints that the protagonist is more powerful than he is aware.

I'm hopeful that this book will pick up the pace a bit in the next installment. The stage is set.

Would you recommend The Farseer: Assassin's Apprentice to your friends? Why or why not?

There are other books I would advise them to read first, however I am starved for finding a decent fantasy series and anything is better than the last two duds I tried "Name of the wind" and "Sheep farmer's daughter" which are quite possible two of the worst books I ever suffered through.

Have you listened to any of Paul Boehmer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. The performance and reading were quite excellent. Nothing can sink an audio book faster than a bad narrator and Paul did a great job here.

Could you see The Farseer: Assassin's Apprentice being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I would rather see the word and void trilogy or possibly a Dark Tower HBO series.

  • Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

Why we think it’s a great listen: Want to join the “superhumans”? Luckily you don’t have to run to catch up with them, thanks to McDougall’s and Sanders’ inspiring (and motivating) journey through history, science, physiology, health, entertaining characters and unlikely friendships. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure.

Corey says: "Amazing read - even for non-runners"
"Really inspiring, well reasearched, good narrattor"
    Overall

Nothing can ruin an audio book faster than a bad narrator. The narrator in this book is excellent and engaging. I was very happy with this production.

The book itself was very inspiring. I met Scot Jurek at Badwater a few years ago... what an awesome dude! If you like running, or history this is going to be a book you want to read.

    "Breast Feeding vs Bottle Feeding"
    Overall

There are 2 parts of this audio book. Possibly the hard copy book has more information.

The first part can be summarized as follows:

"Don't cater to every whim of your baby. Don't not cater to every whim of your baby."

The second part can be summarized as follows:

"There are pros and cons to both bottle feeding and breast feeding."

I just saved you some $$ or a credit. You can thank me later.

    Martin says: "Gary delivers!"
"Great book and more content then the written one"
    Overall

Gary packs the audio version of this book full of much additional input. This book listens more like a radio show than someone dictating a book to you.

I really appreciate it when the author of a book reads his/her own book, this shows me the passion that he puts into his works.

Now I just need to "Crush It". I'm pretty pumped about it.
