I want to feel good when I complete a story & am a little harsh on depressing ones. There are a few sad ones that I love but not many.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

This was a gritty story about being a U.S. Navy Seal Sniper. Very well done. Speaker took a little getting use to but I settled in. Real amazing story from an amazing U.S. Soldier.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

On Combat looks at what happens to the human body under the stresses of deadly battle and the impact on the nervous system, heart, breathing, visual and auditory perception, memory - then discusses new research findings as to what measure warriors can take to prevent such debilitations so they can stay in the fight, survive, and win. A brief, but insightful look at history shows the evolution of combat, the development of the physical and psychological leverage that enables humans to kill other humans, followed by an objective examination of domestic violence in America.

I have had the privilege of seeing Mr. Grossman speak on two occasions. I think that he provides emergency service and military personnel with all of the tools necessary to survive in a world of combat and trauma. This book is well written and Grossman reads it with passion. I will be following this up with On Killing and possibly with other works by Grossman.

I already subscribe to The podcast so including a few at the end didn't do much for me. Loved every minute of the actual book.
