Wayward Pines, Idaho, is quintessential small-town America — or so it seems. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in search of two missing federal agents, yet soon is facing much more than he bargained for. After a violent accident lands him in the hospital, Ethan comes to with no ID and no cell phone. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels…off. As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation into his colleagues’ disappearance turns up more questions than answers. Why can’t he make contact with his family in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what’s the purpose of the electrified fences encircling the town? Are they keeping the residents in? Or something else out? Each step toward the truth takes Ethan further from the world he knows, until he must face the horrifying possibility that he may never leave Wayward Pines alive…

Would you consider the audio edition of Pines to be better than the print version?

    Wouldn't know

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    Kept getting kicked back

Which character – as performed by Paul Michael Garcia – was your favorite?

    Burke

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

What lengths to hide a town?

    Any additional comments?

Wow! This novel really had me going. I was so angry at one point I put the novel down (overnight). I was completely taken in and I usually work everything out.

What disappointed you about The Assassin's Wife: A Thriller?

This novel needs much better editing

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    predictable

Would you be willing to try another one of Kitty Hendrix’s performances?

Really bad narration for such a pleasant voice so, No.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

irritation as too much attention is drawn by the poor writing and bad narration when the story is so promising

    Any additional comments?

    Pretty disappointed all round

When Sally Mertill is driving a carload of her friends back to Green Mountain Falls after visiting Pike's Peak they careen off the side of the mountain road. With no guardrails, it's not surprising there are no survivors. And yet within two days, a not altogether bad fellow named Bocnic Drewings will call upon the metal drawer where Sally's body awaits autopsy, open it, and lead her on the adventure of a lifetime - well, that's if she would have survived the accident.

What disappointed you about Temperature: Dead and Rising?

Writing, narrator and story. This had to be a first draft - at least I hope so. No editor or even 'intelligent friend' would give an 'OK' to the contents of this effort.

What do you think your next listen will be?

There are hundreds in my library and I often toss a coin. I'm considering James Cook's latest segment of 'Surviving the Dead', titled 'Fire in Winter' as I've enjoyed his efforts.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joanna Withey?

This effort is not worth narrating.

What character would you cut from Temperature: Dead and Rising?

Based on the prose presented I would delete every one. This title requires a complete re-do, including author's consideration.

    Any additional comments?

Sorry to be so negative but I expect, at the very least, reasonable writing and a narrator who knows how to properly pronounce everyday words.

America is falling, ready to join the Roman Empire as a distant memory in the annals of history. The year is 2027. Tired and desperate, the American people are deep in the middle of The Second Great Depression. The Florida coastline is in ruins from the most powerful hurricane on record; a second just like it is bearing down on the state of Texas. For the first time in history, the Middle East has united as one and amassed the most formidable army the world has seen since the Third Reich.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Has Collapse turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

What didn’t you like about David Gilmore’s performance?

Hesitant, unprepared, pausing in the wrong places, no emotion, no flow - complete disappointment and totally distracting from content. I was alternatively irritated and put to sleep.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

A poor reader distracts from content and prevents listener from becoming involved in the story. It's tough to say what redeeming characteristics the book actually offered.

    Any additional comments?

Please allow specific reader reviews to prevent this situation. The authors should also be aware of this disservice to their efforts.

When three of the world's most prominent horror writers are viciously blackmailed, they are left with no choice but to abandon their comfortable lifestyles and take up seclusion in a tiny cabin in the mountains of Colorado, just on the outskirts of a mysteriously deserted mining town. As the three trapped writers work together, struggling to understand and meet the demands of their blackmailers, they soon realize that they aren't alone. There's something else out there in the woods with them...

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Educated narrator, experienced writer, intelligent follow through - any of these would have helped this book. While the concept actually had promise, the author seems to have stopped working beyond this point. The narrator was totally unequipped for reading more than short sentences and completely savaged pronunciation of common words. This premise had possibility. Too bad.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am currently touring horror, with mighty hopes

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lucas Kitchen?

There are many terrific narrators out there who could even pull this off - to a point.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I would not recommend this book to anyone. It needs to return to the rejection pile and possibly be pulled apart and completely re-imagined. From there the author could attempt a new effort.

    Any additional comments?

This is a book I would return. I have purchased (thousands?) from Audible and some have been flops while most are terrific 'reads'. I listen to multiple genre but often dip into horror in hopes of finding the rare new book that really chills.

What would have made Zombie Battle: Trinity better?

An editor, a plot, anything original and something exciting

Would you recommend Zombie Battle: Trinity to your friends? Why or why not?

Nope. There are many better Zombie novels

Would you be willing to try another one of Andrew B. Wehrlen’s performances?

Nope. He sounds as if he is seeing the material for the first time and isn't sure where the sentences break or end

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Zombie Battle: Trinity?

Oh my goodness..too many to list

    Any additional comments?

It's not that difficult to write better material. The waste of time saddens me.

What made the experience of listening to Talulla Rising the most enjoyable?

    Action and character development

Who was your favorite character and why?

Talulla herself, who grows and develops embracing her personal faults and strengths as she continues forward

What three words best describe Penelope Rawlins’s voice?

    not my favorite

Who was the most memorable character of Talulla Rising and why?

Mystery surrounding Marco pricks at the memory

    Any additional comments?

How could the monsters be portrayed so clearly without the language, personal desires and actions that some of the previous listeners complain of? We are listening to philosophic ruminations of a monster, after all. This novel is not represented as a fairy tale or a story to make us imagine ourselves transformed. I certainly cringed at some passages but enjoyed the story too much to be sidetracked. I was more disappointed with the faulty pronunciation of certain words. I got used to the reader and have no problem dealing with issues of accents and such when the story is superior.
