  • From Potters Field: A Scarpetta Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Patricia Cornwell
    • Narrated By C. J. Critt
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

An unidentified nude female sits propped against a fountain in Central Park. There are no signs of struggle. When Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her colleagues Benton Wesley and Pete Marino arrive on the scene, they instantly recognize the signature of serial killer Temple Brooks Gault. Scarpetta, on assignment with the FBI, visits the New York City morgue on Christmas morning, where she must use her forensic expertise to give a name to the nameless - a difficult task. But as she sorts through conflicting forensic clues, Gault claims his next victim.

    D. Gross says: "A poor reading"
    "Loved it!"
What made the experience of listening to From Potters Field the most enjoyable?

I'm loving these Scarpetta books, and I've enjoyed listening to Critt's character choices.

What about C. J. Critt’s performance did you like?

She has kept the same characterizations from the first book until now, and it makes the books more realistic, as if we're listening to real relationships evolve. I saw someone complaining about her voice for Wesley, and that just seems like a negative negative Nancy thing to complain about.

Sure he's not voiced like Mark was, but he is voiced like he always has been, which suits his personality. There are some actual human beings who fall in love with guys who chew their words and take life a little too seriously.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm running through these books like water - I'm already dreading the end - of the series, and I believe a brand new book comes out soon!

  • Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Neil Gaiman
    • Narrated By Neil Gaiman

In this new anthology, Neil Gaiman pierces the veil of reality to reveal the enigmatic, shadowy world that lies beneath. Trigger Warning includes previously published pieces of short fiction--stories, verse, and a very special Doctor Who story that was written for the fiftieth anniversary of the beloved series in 2013--as well as "Black Dog", a new tale that revisits the world of American Gods, exclusive to this collection.

Jan says: "It Triggered Me to Stay Up Late and Listen"
"Semi-conscious ramblings of a literary genius."

If you love Neil Gaiman this is a must read. If brilliant writers interest you, you should give it a listen. If you are looking for cohesive stories, look away!

  • Monster Hunter Legion: Monster Hunter, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Larry Correia
    • Narrated By Oliver Wyman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When hunters from around the world gather in Las Vegas for a conference, a creature left over from a World War Two weapons experiment wakes up and goes on a rampage across the desert. A not-so-friendly wager between the rival companies turns into a race to see who can bag the mysterious creature first. Only there is far more to this particular case than meets the eye, and as Hunters fall prey to their worst nightmares, Owen Zastava Pitt and the staff of Monster Hunter International have to stop an ancient god from turning Sin City into a literal hell on earth.

Katherine says: "What happens in Vegas..."
    "Great Series!"
Would you listen to Monster Hunter Legion again? Why?

It's great writing, great storytelling by the Author. Larry Correia is one of my new favorites. Oliver Wyman does a great job of narration as well. I can't wait for the next booK!

What other book might you compare Monster Hunter Legion to and why?

this book is most like - The first two books in this series. It's fun like the Dresden Files series - kinda cocky, with lots of supernatural fun.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's just one of those voice actors who make you forget that you're listening to an actor. I am experience the story - nothing stands out as - whoa - that was a noticeable bad choice. All of his characters are distinct, and the female voices never make me think "oh this is a man trying to talk like a woman". Everything rolls smoothly and we can really enjoy the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Monster does Vegas

Tracking that someone takes Harry into the dangerous underbelly of Chicago, from mobsters.

Tom says: "Excellent Story, Distracting Sound Engineering"
    "Great story, wonderful acting"
Would you listen to Storm Front again? Why?

Butcher's books continue to get better and better as the series goes on. His stories are wonderful and captivating. The writing at times seems a little bit less than fantastic, but the stories are worth it, and the writing gets better with every book in the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Clearly Harry Dresden.

Which character ??? as performed by James Marsters ??? was your favorite?
