Holy boy, what a bad book. Or at least I feel as let down as I did after seeing The Phantom Menace: too much build up by all of my friends that have read the book, or listened to the CD. I'm definitely not a fan of Crichton's biggest suspense cop-out. "And everything's getting really suspenseful, we're starting to learn a lot about what's going on ... and that's when the door opened!" and into a new chapter. Or "If only we knew how to fix this problem" says one character ... "I think I've figured out how to get us back home." says another ... new chapter. C'mon Crichton. You write like a fifth-grader. Prey was horrible. This was worse. Folks might make fun of Stephen King, but at least the guy can write a story that makes me care about the characters and even remember their names!! I can't remember a single character's name from Prey or Timeline, and I only just listened to them this week.
Steer clear of this one.
