What did you love best about Speaks the Nightbird?

As a fan of Robert McCammon, I was glad to see he has written some new material. I did not really keep up with his career after high school. This novel is just as good, if not better, than any of his previous work. My favorite has always been Wolf's Hour. The characters are well-defined, with distinct personalities. The plot keeps moving and does not allow the listener to become bored.

What about Edoardo Ballerini’s performance did you like?

This is an amazing narrator. He gives different voices to the different characters (which always makes a listen so much more enjoyable). His accents are wonderful. I could listen to him forever......

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I felt stricken when the Maskers left, as the one character in particular was Matthew's best hope for getting Rachel released from prison.

After listening to 'Catching Fire' I just had to finish the trilogy. Although it is hard to discuss without giving out spoilers I will do my best and critique in more general language than I would like. I was a little frustrated by Katniss's reluctance to be really fierce. She seems to spend a fair amount of time experiencing emotional difficulties. Not to say that a real young woman in her situation wouldn't, but I felt it made her character too soft. However, the tension between Gale and Peeta was well written, and the psychological effects of Peeta's torture were also vividly described. Overall, there was still enough action to keep the story moving and interesting. The situation described (between the government and the Territories and the people finally fighting back in rebellion) really makes the listener consider what the reality of such a situation would be like.

These books keep getting better. I have to begin listening to the next one right away! I kind of wish Katniss would stop suspecting everyone of meaning her harm, but then again.....whom would she trust? And Peeta is such a great guy. I simply must know what happens to him.

I like Carolyn McCormick well enough. I can't say she is my favorite narrator but still she does an excellent job.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

After seeing the movie with my daughters nearly a year ago and being stongly urged to read the series, I have finally begun these books. Just as my girls told me, this is a great book. There is a lot of action and suspense, and even though it is a young adult novel the author has written it so well that even adults will enjoy it. The narrator does a fine job, although I find her speech a little clipped which is somewhat distracting to me. However, her voice is clear and audible throughout (I have listened to books where the narrator gets quiet toward the end of sentences). I very much enjoyed this book and have already spent my next credit on the next book in the series!

Best-selling author Mary Roach returns with a new adventure to the invisible realm we carry around inside. Roach takes us down the hatch on an unforgettable tour. The alimentary canal is classic Mary Roach terrain: The questions explored in Gulp are as taboo, in their way, as the cadavers in Stiff and every bit as surreal as the universe of zero gravity explored in Packing for Mars. Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to find words for flavors and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts?

I truly enjoy Ms. Roach's writing. I learn something, I giggle (bovine malfeasance!) and truly enjoy my morning commute. She tackles icky subjects with a sense of humor, and makes a boring subject something to enjoy. Thanks, Mary! That part about Elvis was news to me!

The Blakes are newcomers to a small town in Normandy. Fred is a historian researching the Allied landings, Maggie enjoys charity work, and their kids are looking forward to meeting other teenagers at the local lycee. Or so it seems. In fact, Fred is really Giovanni Manzoni, an ex-goodfella turned stool pigeon who's been relocated from New Jersey to France by the FBI's witness protection program. And when imprisoned mobster Don Mimino gets wind of their location, it's Mafia mayhem.

I enjoyed this book, but mostly because of the narration. Eduardo Ballerini is truly a gifted talent. The story is okay. I found Fred, the male character, hard to tolerate with all his mafia-laden ways and egotistical viewpoint of the world. The family as a whole is hard to develop feelings for, although the mother, Olivia, seems the most human. I don't know how realistically this story portrays life in the witness protection program, or if it even was meant to, but I probably would not have finished the book if I were reading it.

After his human patients desert him, the kind-hearted doctor finds his calling in practicing animal medicine, and his fame spreads far and wide. When a terrible epidemic breaks out among monkeys in Africa, Dr. Dolittle sets out to save them, accompanied by some of his favorite pets.

Not having any familiarity with this story prior to downloading the audiobook, I was thinking it would be more entertaining. I felt like it may have been written for a three year old. I guess I was expecting something written in a more adult language. The narrator did a good job giving voices to speaking animals. Overall I was not that captivated by this story.

This book was a breath of fresh air. In today's world it is so difficult to see the beauty in everyday things, let alone those whom society has deemed unworthy. I applaud G for his efforts, and I hope he has many more years of successful work at this mission. We have these needs of charity and love right in our own country, even right out our own back doors sometimes, and we do not see them. I hope this story has made some small change in my own personality to be a better person and to not overlook the beauty, light, and raw potential in people I may not give enough credit to.

While the powerlessness of the laboring class is a recurring theme in Steinbeck’s work of the late 1930s, he narrowed his focus when composing Of Mice and Men (1937), creating an intimate portrait of two men facing a world marked by petty tyranny, misunderstanding, jealousy, and callousness. But though the scope is narrow, the theme is universal: a friendship and shared dream that make an individual’s existence meaningful.

The narration was perfect. The voices added so much to the interpretation of the character's personality. Lenny broke my heart. As a parent of child with Downs, I understand how difficult it is for a person with a learning disorder to comprehend the society we have created. George was so devoted to Lenny, I just wanted to hug him. In fact, all the characters had their positive qualities (except for maybe Curly). A short listen - about 3 hours- but it is a deep, deep story that will leave you with thoughts that your brain will keep picking at for days.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I enjoyed listening to this book. Ray Porter did an excellent job of capturing the different personalities with his voices. The story was well-written but the concept was somewhat far-fetched and hard to become totally invested in. In fact, I was completely entranced with the secrets of the apartment as they were being discovered up till the point where the "Squale" made its appearance. I will refrain from any more detail so as not to spoil the story for others. Still, there was a lot of action and it was a fun listen, if only to find out how it all turned out.

. Mister Slaughter opens in the emerging metropolis of New York City in 1702, and proceeds to take both Matthew and the reader on an unforgettable journey of horror, violence, and personal discovery. The journey begins when Matthew, now an apprentice problem solver for the London-based Herrald Agency, accepts an unusual and hazardous commission. Together with his colleague, Hudson Greathouse, he agrees to escort the notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter from an asylum outside Philadelphia to the docks of New York.

I have enjoyed the entire Matthew Corbett series, and I thoroughly enjoyed this story as well. I especially enjoyed the character of Walker in Two Worlds. I would have enjoyed hearing more about him, and seeing him in other books. There was more violence in this book, which does not bother me, and it really brought the character of Slaughter to life in all his vileness. McCammon has written a great novel, and, as always, Eduardo Ballerini has brought the characters to life with his spot-on narration.
