I'm a huge Koontz fan, trying to read his books as soon as they hit the streets. I have thought "In the Corner of his Eye" was my all time favorite but "Strangers" comes a close second. The characterizations are awesome, you really get to know each and every one of the people whose story he is telling. They are living breathing folks that you come to care deeply about and to cheer on when things go so amiss for them. I miss these guys now that I've finished the book and wonder often how their lives would progree.
I must admit I haven't been a big King fan in the past but this book, Under the Dome, has truly made me a believer. His characters are astonishingly human, his bads guys evil almost to their very core, and his descriptions made this story come totally alive. It took me 2 weeks to "listen" to this book and I was enthralled each and every step of the way. His story never lets you down. I shall definitely be "listening" to more King soon.
I have listened to oodles of audiobooks but this one is a DOOZY. If you like Carl Hiaasen's writing you're going to LOVE Ben Rehder. His characters are memorable and his story has twists and turns, and a few belly laughs, that will keep you glued to your ear phones. I had to explain to people around me what I found some dang funny. Give it a shot, you'll be glad you did
