  • Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By David Sedaris
    • Narrated By David Sedaris

From the unique perspective of David Sedaris comes a new collection of essays taking his listeners on a bizarre and stimulating world tour. From the perils of French dentistry to the eating habits of the Australian kookaburra, from the squat-style toilets of Beijing to the particular wilderness of a North Carolina Costco, we learn about the absurdity and delight of a curious traveler's experiences.

    FanB14 says: "Devout Fan Disappointed"
    "Another Great Collection of Stories!"
Would you listen to Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls again? Why?

I almost didn't get this audio-book based on some of these reviews- "Music too long" "Live audio terrible" etc. especially because I honestly didn't care much for his last book "Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary" at all.

Well, I'm glad I ignored them because now that I've finished listening I must say, those people have no idea what they're writing about! The music was perfectly innocuous and appropriately timed. The live recordings sound exactly like live recordings always do- live. Sure you hear the audience but that's sort of the point!

Then there's the review complaining of Sedaris' delivery. May I remind you that it has been 20 years since his first book and the man is 56 years old! Do you really expect everyone to stay the same?

Bottom line, this is yet another terrific memoir from one of my favorite authors! Just as funny, charming, alarming and fun as ever!

If you are a fan, you won't regret it! If you aren't a fan then you probably won't be won over.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Um, David Sedaris. Because it's a memoir.

Which character – as performed by David Sedaris – was your favorite?

    His mother.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, but couldn't.

  • The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy: How Democratic Operatives Tried to Bring Down a President

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Byron York
    • Narrated By Robertson Dean
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Left is angry: angry at President George W. Bush, the war in Iraq, the "right-wing media", and more. And as National Review investigative writer Byron York reveals in this stunning, meticulously reported book, liberal activists have harnessed that anger to build the biggest, richest, and best organized political movement in American history.

Brian Dowrick says: "Not a Left Bashing Circus"
    "Another lying liar."

Methinks the Neo-cons are getting nervous- approval ratings lower than Nixon!

    Liars always lose.

  • 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (And Al Franken is #37)

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Bernard Goldberg
    • Narrated By Bernard Goldberg

Bernard Goldberg takes dead aim at the America Bashers (the cultural elites who look down their snobby noses at "ordinary" Americans and detest so much of what this country is about); the Hollywood Blowhards (incredibly ditzy celebrities who think they're smart just because they're famous); the TV Schlockmeisters (including the one whose show has been compared to a churning mass of maggots devouring rotten meat); the Intellectual Thugs, and many more.

Marc says: "Some good points (really), kinda partisan."
"100 People Who Are Screwing Up America"

Funny, but my list seems to be different: For instance, number 37 is Bernard Goldberg. Screwing up America as defined by record deficits, daily casualties in Iraq, Osama still free, Bush's record-breaking vacations, out-sourcing jobs and the attempt to turn America into a theocracy just like Iran. Exposing the documented lies, demanding resposibility for the outing of a CIA agent, criticizing the corruption of those like Tom Delay and Rick Santorum is not America Bashing- it's the opposite. This administration is by far the most corrupt, anti-American in history- Hitler would be proud.
