I love this series so far. However, It is not for the feint of heart. It is brutal. Awesome though.
If you haven't read the Mistborn trilogy, you should. If you have, you should definitely pick this one up. Very fun.
If you didn't already know. This book is the last in Abercrombie's First Law universe. Basically, the First Law series is a trilogy. An awesome trilogy. Then he wrote three more stand alone books that take place in the same universe. Red Country being the third stand alone book, and sixth overall in the universe.
I've heard some people read these stand alone books by themselves. I don't necessarily think that's wrong, but I read them all in order, and for me, the experience was perfect. Red Country is amazing on it's own. But as part of the whole, it can't believe how much I loved it.
So if you've already read any of the other books in this universe, DEFINITELY READ THIS ONE. It's the best one in my opinion BY FAR.
But if you are new to the universe, and are interested in a 6 book commitment, you might consider reading the other 5 first, and let this be the wonderful final adventure that it is. All of it is worth reading.
Or just read Red Country first. Any of those choices is a good choice.
This book is ACTION PACKED. If you are looking at this, you hopefully have read the First Law series. I enjoyed The Heroes more than those books. It's a lot of fun, and great characters. Highly recommend it.
If you haven't read First Law series, you probably should cause they are great and make this book more fun. If you haven't read Best Served Cold, you can if you want. It will make The Heroes more fun.
This is a tough review. If you are thinking of buying this book, then you probably have read the First Law Series, which was amazing. Best Served Cold isn't nearly as amazing. It's a fun book. The narrator is a disappointing change but I got used to him.
HOWEVER, my recommendation is that you plow through this book really fast. Yeah it's not great, but it's ok. And when you are finished, you get to read The Heroes, and Red Country, the next stand alone books by Abercrombie. The Heroes is amazing and Red Country might be the most fun I've ever had in fantasy EVER.
So Best Served Cold is not bad, but DEFINITELY worth slogging through to get to better books. Just take it like cough medicine so that you'll have fun later.
If you are debating continuing with this series, keep going. I loved it. It only gets better.
This book doesn't start out as strong as the trilogy ends. This trilogy and series is definitely worth reading. It gets way better from here.
If you liked the Prince of Nothing series, you may as well keep going. It was a little hard in the beginning, getting used to the new narrator and starting a new set of characters, but it was worth it.
Narrator's not as good as the last trilogy but the story itself is just as good. May as well keep going if you've come this far.
Got this audiobook for a road trip. It was a fun listen. Pretty simple and straight forward. Love the concept.
This book was brutally long for me. I love the story, but not the length. The reader was fantastic. So if you are thinking of listening to les mis over reading it yourself, this audiobook did a great job. Be ready for a marathon though.
