In Dead Man's Walk, Gus and Call are not yet 20, young men coming of age in the days when Texas was still an independent republic. Enlisting as Texas Rangers under a land pirate who wants to seize Santa Fe from the Mexicans, Gus and Call experience their first great adventure in the barren great plains landscape, in which arbitrary violence is the rule -- whether from nature, or from the Indians whose territory they must cross in order to reach New Mexico.<

I am hesitant with any prequel but after Streets of Laredo I wanted more from this writer. Dead Man's walk was an amazing book. I loved it, and I'm starting to realize the order in which McMurtry wrote these books might be genius.

Will Patton is the best reader in this series in my opinion. Loved every minute of it.

If you liked the Prince of Nothing series, you may as well keep going. It was a little hard in the beginning, getting used to the new narrator and starting a new set of characters, but it was worth it.

Narrator's not as good as the last trilogy but the story itself is just as good. May as well keep going if you've come this far.

Among them, two men and two women are ensnared by a mysterious traveler, Anasûrimbor Kellhus - part warrior, part philosopher, part sorcerous, charismatic presence - from lands long thought dead. One of the great classics of world literature and the inspiration for the most beloved stage musical of all time, Les Misérables is legendary author Victor Hugo’s masterpiece. This extraordinary English version by renowned translator Julie Rose captures all the majesty and brilliance of Hugo’s work. Here is the timeless story of the quintessential hunted man—Jean Valjean—and the injustices, violence, and social inequalities that torment him.

This book was brutally long for me. I love the story, but not the length. The reader was fantastic. So if you are thinking of listening to les mis over reading it yourself, this audiobook did a great job. Be ready for a marathon though.

Not since the publication of his own beloved classic Lonesome Dove has there been a novel like this one, another big, brilliant, unputdownable saga of the West from Larry McMurtry. Telegraph Days is at once a major work of literature and a completely absorbing read, not just great fiction, but fiction on a great scale.

I'm a big fan of McMurtry. This is not one my favorite books of his. It's really good, but I'd read other books of his first if I were you. BUT that being said, Annie Potts was one of the best readers I have ever heard of my entire Audiobook experience. She did a fantastic job.

The final book of Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove tetralogy is an exhilarating tale of legend and heroism. Captain Woodrow Call, August McCrae's old partner, is now a bounty hunter hired to track down a brutal young Mexican bandit. Riding with Call are an Eastern city slicker, a witless deputy, and one of the last members of the Hat Creek outfit, Pea Eye Parker, now married to Lorena -- once Gus McCrae's sweetheart. This long chase leads them across the last wild streches of the West....

I was hesitant to read this book. I felt like Lonesome Dove was over. I was satisfied and wasn't sure if I needed to know more. But then I realized that I loved Larry McMurtry's writing style so much, and missed it in other books I decided to go back to this series. In a lot of ways I may have liked Streets of Laredo better.

If you are in the same situation right now as I was then, just buy this book. It's fantastic. The reader isn't quite as good as Lee Horsley, but almost.

Larry McMurtry's American epic, set in the late 19th century, tells the story of a cattle drive from Texas to Montana, a drive that represents not only a daring foolhardy adventure, but a part of the American Dream for everyone involved.

One of the best books I've ever read and Lee Horsley did a fantastic job. Overall my favorite audiobook so far.

One tip though is to be sure to download the highest quality files. The lower quality files were distractingly bad for me. Took up a lot of space on my phone but it was well worth it.
