"Love this series"
This is a great series, set in 1930's, with a hint of romance along with a mystery. However, I am tired of hearing the same explanations of the main characters in each book. Obviously, it is so the books can stand alone, but for fans, it is tedious. The plot keeps one riveted, and the narrator is absolutely excellent. Overall, I recommend it.
"Couldn't finish it"
No
One of the few books I actually stopped reading mid way through. Plot was way too predictable.
"I would have dumped him"
I do not understand why the higher ratings from others for this book. The narrator's voice was an attempted sexy Southern Drawl with British English overtones, and did not work. I could barely listen to the story due to cringing at the voice.
The plot started roughly 20% into Part 1. Every cliche phrase that could be written regarding body types and sex was present, in spades. At times I wished to choke the heroine, who seemed to go from ninny and accepting of all sorts of downgrading behavior from her husband, to feisty in the blink of an eye. It is beyond me why two people who fight all the time, both physically and verbally, would want to stay together.
Probably the worst was the rape scene, and the heroine, while protesting, almost immediately afterwards was lusting after the rapist. A close second was her inability to verbalize the actions she took that led to the "misunderstandings" in her relationship despite months of solitary togetherness.
I generally enjoy this author, but this book irritated me more than gave enjoyment.
"I miss these kinds of romance stories"
First read this book about 30 years ago, and always enjoyed the author. It's an old fashioned romance without the graphic sex scenes. It was truly a breath of fresh air.
"Edge of the seat book"
Hard to put this book down as a thriller with lots of plot turns. The story itself wasn't that believable, but it did keep one wondering what was going to happen next!
"Silly but good"
This was a light, amusing read. Lots of twists and turns to the plot. I recommend it.
"Excellent book"
While the narrator could use a bit more inflection in her voice, the overall listen was excellent. At first, couldn't understand how the various subplots fit in, but it all came together in the end. Well recommended.
"Another excellent book"
Well developed characters, and the story keeps you glued to the ipod. The narrator has an excellent voice, and did well changing voices. One could feel the emotion of the jury trial and outcome. Absolutely excellent book.
"Hard to put down!"
Excellent time travel romance from modern times to 1700's. The story definitely sucks you in, and will have you carrying the book with you everywhere you go!
"Hard to put down!"
A good contemporary romance, that kept me smiling. The kind of book one can't put down.
