When bullying threatens to destroy a teen’s life, painful memories resurface for dedicated high school teacher Laura Reed and pediatrician J. C. Fullerton. With the support of the Sweet Magnolias, they bring the town together to ensure that a promising student’s future isn’t ruined. And to establish once and for all that bullying has no place in Serenity, South Carolina. Both J.C.’s and Laura’s passion for the cause is deeply personal, and their growing feelings for each other are just as strong. But with so many secret hurts to overcome, can these two vulnerable lovers find the strength to believe in happily ever after?“Woods always thrills with her wonderful characters, witty dialogue and warm and loving family interactions.” — RT Book Reviews

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

More joy, more story. Where were the Sweet Magnolias?

What could Sherryl Woods have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Skip the "bullying " story. It went on and on and on.

Have you listened to any of Janet Metzger’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Good

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Catching Fireflies?

    All the "bullying " story.

    Any additional comments?

I did not need all the that sanctimonious speech. I was expecting a real Sweet Magnolias story. I did not even finish the book. First time for a Sheryl Woods book.

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

Where does The Witness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The best in recent Nora Roberts novels. I was about to quit on her as I did not like her recent books.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The second and third parts (Brooks & Abigail) of the book are my favorite. I really enjoyed the revenge part. It was very clever. I like Abigail as the computer and security fundi and Brooks as the steady righter of wrongs. I liked the Brook's nosy family.

What does Julia Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was very good and most of all very clear and audible. I am not english so it is difficult when the narrator has a strong american accent or is too nasal. The change of voice for each character was good.
