"Fantastic Cosmic Stuff Well Explained"
This is one of the best books I ever bought. Cosmology like I never knew. Now when I see those Hubble telescope images I know what they are. This is a great book - give me more please - it is too short.
"Techno Thriller sees Cyber-Security Deficiency USA"
Threat Vector (TV) was a typical Tom Clancy genre novel so I felt secure that I was about to have a good read. The concept was very timely and cutting edge, with a realistic scenario albeit a little far-fetched that technology has really made it that far. The PRC communist government were portrayed in a bad light, but in this novel they were the enemies. After I read this novel i heard all kinds of concepts from it being used in US Congress even so far as Obama's State of the Union Address. Certainly, a cyberthreat to take down GPS satellites and parts of the internet would have a major impact on the USA economy, and probably also, the military.
Geeks watch out, Uncle Sam still packs a punch.
Allowing that it is a typical Clancy novel, it is imperfect but quite a fun read. Escapist. I went back and updated all my antivirus programs.
"Great Articles - Mostly pithy and enjoyable."
These astronomy and science articles by Tyson are mostly very good. Some are a little bit simplistic but most are quite deep. I listened to it a few times and learned a lot. If I ever get back to New York I am going to drop by the planetarium and shake the author's hand.
"Long and not what I expected"
I thought this book would be full of stories about the greek mythology etc. It did not really seem to hit the mark although did go into some depth talking about all the various gods in different civilizations. So it was very long (three audiofiles) and not fantastically interesting. I am generous giving it a 3 I think. Maybe I will listen to it again as I can't really remember very many details of it!
"Interesting and Informative"
I'll be brief here. This is an interesting and logically explained discussion about time and relativity. Not in so much depth that I gave up but deep enough so as not to insult my intelligence. During a 90 minute country drive I listened to most of it - and my wife went to sleep after 30 minutes of it. Not a bad effort overall.
"If you like scioence - avoid this"
I was disappointed with this book. I had hoped Iwould learn something but the science is very anecdotal. More like a psychoanalysis text with a veneer of evolution and genetics. Dr Phil entusiasts might like it. Very motivational if you are trying to lose weight. I stopped half way through - the second half of the book might be better. Maybe I will update this if ever I am in jail and this is the only book I can find.
"Original and Reasonable Hialrious Sarcasm"
I never watched Bill's TV show much but I really enjoyed this book. He is a bit more radical than me, but puts a good case for various libertarian and left wing views. Actually I am a George Bush supporter but I still thought Bill's book was good value. Classic chapters were press coverage of the olympics, safe sex in US teenagers and various jibes at all the religions. Devilishly funny!
