I was expecting big things after
Not a great book, not the worst book. Anyone working at a company could totally relate and perhaps envision their own IT guy as the main character.
It is a light book. It is nothing special, but it won't be your worst listen either. It was good enough that I finished listening to it, but I find myself at a loss to find a lot of good ways to describe the story...
The storyline I just found to be bizarre. I would hardly call it a "Thriller". At no time did I find myself sitting on the edge of my seat. It is a strange reverse slavery themed book. It literally was if it was a written by someone who still has not gotten over the fact that slavery existed in this country and is angry.
The only reason that I didn't give it one star was that I enjoyed the narrator.
This was just a great story. Yes, there were some sad parts, but all in all, it was a fun, upbeat listen. I LOVED the father. He was hilarious! I actually didn't know what to expect from this book but it was a great family story, and about following one's passions in life.
The narrator was superb! He did a great job with accents and differentiations of characters.
I am actually very anxious to see the movie now and see how it compares to the book.
It has a little bit of everything - drama, mystery, love...I questioned whether or not I would like this book since it is set in Australia. I tend to enjoy books more when I have traveled to the country they are taking place in and I can visualize an area.
I absolutely loved this book and it could have taken place on Mars. The location was so unimportant to the story. The character development, I felt was strong throughout the book.
The narrator was fantastic! A+ for this book. Have just started her latest and so far, I am not liking it as much as this one, but we will see how it goes.
Obviously, Trivia Night
It was a good listen. It was a bit predictable at times, but I still wasn't positive on how it was going to end until it ended. I agree with a previous reviewer that at times the mother was a bit annoying, however the story was about her too, not just the daughter. The father didn't develop into a strong character but that may have been intentional and meant to be part of the overall problem. It kept me engaged to and from my long commute.
It alternated chapters between the mother's view of what was going on and what was happening to the daughter. "B" was appropriately creepy from the start. While not as strong as Flynn's Gone Girl, I think if you liked that book, you would like this one.
Whose kid was it???!!! I was guessing (and guessing wrong) the whole book. It was a nice story, and I could relate to the close knit neighborhood. Little bit of everything - romance, scandal, mystery...Typical chick lit! Definitely enjoyable.
So I thought the book started out strong and that the main character's illness was an interesting twist. I was really enjoying it. Somewhere in the middle, it would be on and I wouldn't even be paying attention. It was dragging for me. All of a sudden it picked up in a whirlwind and I found myself eager to listen. All in all, a really good listen. It is hard to go wrong with Scott Brick as a narrator. He always delivers a solid performance.
Yes. He is a good narrator and I generally enjoy his readings.
The first half of the story had me really engaged - the second half had me wanting it to end. It became stupid and rediculous. It could have ended a lot sooner than it did. The author tried to do too much - a romance - a tragedy - corporate thriller - crime story all in one and I don't think it worked. Once the character Roy came in, the author lost me. The fact that Lily wasn't pregnant was evident to anyone with a brain in the first chapter. I would try another one of his novels, before crossing this author off my list, but this was underwhelming.
The twists and turns
I LOVED this book! The story was nothing short of addicting. I found myself wanting to get in the car and go to work in the morning (usually I only want to go home from work LOL)! I loved the plot and it was so suspenseful and kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out - BOOM another twist. Paranoia was always my favorite book by him until now. This blew it away. If you are a Finder fan - hit buy. You will not be disappointed with this one!.
I listened to this book years ago, but recently started going back and listening to my Nelson Demille audiobooks again. I have never done that before, and I have to say, I found it just as enjoyable the second time around. When you follow and author and certain characters, I think there are certain things about them, their relationships, where they came from that a listener forgets (at least this listener forgets!). It was great to refresh on the characters. It is a such an amazing, fast-paced story and you can't go wrong with anything Scott Brick reads!
I would say, if you are a Demille fan and you haven't listened to this, why? If you have listened to it, listen again. You will enjoy it!
