From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Did you ever read a book and feel like it had been done before? That was how this book was for me. I also didn't like care for the progression of the book. I felt like the story could have been told in about 1/2 the time. I felt like the author was trying to develop these deep characters and relationships, but never quite got there.

The narration was awesome however and that was what kept me engaged in the book.

Few companies in history have ever been as successful and as admired as Google, the company that has transformed the Internet and become an indispensable part of our lives. How has Google done it? Veteran technology reporter Steven Levy was granted unprecedented access to the company, and in this revelatory book he takes listeners inside Google headquarters - the Googleplex - to explain how Google works.

This was a great insider's look into Google. Everyone pretty much knows about Google and its founders, but this really steps you through the company's evolution. There were times I laughed out loud, and times I shook my head in disbelief at some of the stories. It went at a great pace and I didn't want it to end.

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

WOW! Vince Flynn delivered on this one. Great plot! Mitch is locked and ready to kill every terrorist in his sight, and maybe even a few who aren't. Not to give anything away, but something happens to Mitch and it is very interesting to see Mitch in this light...maybe a kinder, more gentle Mitch...Great story from start to finish. I didn't want this one to end.

Same narrator as the past books in recent years. I just love him. He plays Mitch so well!

The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....

What a great book! John Corey is in a bad mood - exactly the way I like him! He is in a place he hates, hunting the Panther and is grumpy, grumpy, grumpy! His sarcasm makes me laugh out loud.

The story is fast paced, with twists and turns. Suspenseful - didn't want it to end. Nelson DeMille absolutely delivers once again!

What would have made Fifty Shades of Grey better?

It needed to be A LOT shorter. I have no idea why this book has received so many wonderful reviews. Are people's own lives so utterly boring that this trash spices it up? It wasn't even the subject matter. It was more that I found the main character, his lack of respect for women, his morals and values, and his attitude towards sex disgusting. I am not some prude when it comes to sex or sex as subject matter - this is about awful writing, narration and story line.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not anything by this author

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator was so annoying. It was like listening to a 50 year old try to imitate a teeny-bopper. Like Oh MY God!

What character would you cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?

Christian was vile. Anyone who found him remotely appealing needs their head examined.

    Any additional comments?

I can't even currently think of a book I liked less. That was hours of my life I can never get back.

I fell in love with every character right down to the dog! Great story! Good mystery with a nice romantic story tied in. I cheered for the main character to overcome everything! I laughed out loud at times and was sitting on the edge of my seat at other parts. Great narrator! I defy you to find one bad thing about this book! Put it on your summer reading list! One of Nora Robert's BEST!

Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom who has finally gotten her and her daughter's lives back on track after a divorce. She is about to remarry, her job as a pediatrician fulfills her - though it is stressful - and her daughter, Megan, is a happily overscheduled thirteen-year-old juggling homework and the swim team. But Jill’s life is turned upside down when her ex-stepdaughter, Abby, shows up on her doorstep late one night and delivers shocking news: Jill’s ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer.

As anyone who listens frequently, you know a narrator can make or break an audiobook. This narrator broke it. The story is interesting to the point I think it makes you want to know what happens. I feel like there was over-development of characters such as the main character's daughter Megan, but not enough development of her step-daughter who enters the book with the shocking news and then disappears for the rest of the book until the end. There were a lot of stories going on within the story at times and it made the book feel disjointed at times. Not one of my favs by her, but not the worst either.

Once called a legend in his own time slot, Garry Marshall has been among the most successful writers, directors, and producers in America for more than five decades. In My Happy Days in Hollywood, Marshall takes us on a journey from his stickball-playing days in the Bronx to his time at the helm of some of the most popular television series and movies of all time, sharing the joys and challenges of working with the Fonz and the young Julia Roberts, the “street performer” Robin Williams, and the young Anne Hathaway, among many others.

It sounded like the recording was uneven. I found myself adjusting the volume a lot. I have never had to do that before with an Audiobook. I loved having Garry Marshall tell his story as the narrator however if you aren't used to listening to a very thick NY accent, you may have a hard time with it.

He has had a fascinating life. He knows everyone, and is one of the biggest players in Hollywood, however is very, very down to earth. There aren't any Hollywood shockers or scandals disclosed, but a real life, honest glimpse into a powerhouse's life. It is a good listen.
