On the morning of December 26, 2004, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, Sonali Deraniyagala lost her parents, her husband, and her two young sons in the tsunami she miraculously survived. In this brave and searingly frank memoir, she describes those first horrifying moments and her long journey since. She has written an engrossing, unsentimental, beautifully poised account: as she struggles through the first months following the tragedy, furiously clenched against a reality that she cannot face and cannot deny....

This was definitely not a story that had me bored or falling asleep midsentence. The author writes a vivid memoir of the tragic loss of her family in the 2004 Sri Lanka tsunami. In the memoir, the author's husband is an English man so the narrator's English accent was appropriate and went well with the telling of the story. As much as there are some dark moments for the author, it is warming to see how she deals with these adversities and manages to bounce back.

From the two-term Poet Laureate of the United States Billy Collins comes his first compilation of new and selected poems in 12 years. Aimless Love combines new poems with selections from four previous books—Nine Horses, The Trouble with Poetry, Ballistics, and Horoscopes for the Dead. Collins’s unmistakable voice, which brings together plain speech with imaginative surprise, is clearly heard with every word, reminding us how he has managed to enrich the tapestry of contemporary poetry and greatly expand its audience.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Liked the poem "Divorce."

    Any additional comments?

It should be noted that the audio has 53 poems while Collins' book contains well over a 100 poems. That said, the selection here is great just wished it carried all the poems the book has.
Also, if you are trying to read along with the book then it could get a bit tedious since the poems on the audio are not in the same order in the book, so be prepared for lots of flipping back and forth between the table of contents then for the page number.

Would you try another book from Nalo Hopkinson and/or Robin Miles?

I'd be interested in trying another book by the author but this one here was hard for me to finish.

Has Sister Mine turned you off from other books in this genre?

I love science fiction, Greek mythology, and fantasy books. While there are instances of those genres in this book, it still failed to capture my interest. The narrator made this interesting.

Was Sister Mine worth the listening time?

I would've given up on this book at the century mark but the narrator was intriguing and kept me listening to the end.

    Any additional comments?

What a difference a good narrated book can make on whether you finish a read or not.

A diary is Nao's only solace - and will touch lives in ways she can scarcely imagine. August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school - until now. He’s about to enter fifth grade at Beecher Prep, and if you’ve ever been the new kid, then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie’s just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, despite appearances?R. J. Palacio has crafted an uplifting novel full of wonderfully realistic family interactions, lively school scenes, and writing that shines with spare emotional power.

What did you love best about Wonder?

I enjoyed just about every single word in this book. It's heart warming, moving, funny. The characters sound like real life kids. The references to pop culture also lend to making this book quite unique. I even love the art on the book jacket which was what first drew me to this book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Wonder?

Auggie's fifth grade weekend outdoor trip-- now that was a good scene.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

I loved Jack's narration the most. His Brooklyn accent fit his character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time.

    Any additional comments?

Every middle school child should read this. Had I read this at 12, it would've had a deep effect on me.

So concluded the National Football League in a December 2005 scientific paper on concussions in America's most popular sport. That judgment, implausible even to a casual fan, also contradicted the opinion of a growing cadre of neuroscientists who worked in vain to convince the NFL that it was facing a deadly new scourge: A chronic brain disease that was driving an alarming number of players - including some of the all-time greats - to madness.

Where does League of Denial rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great book for readers into sports, science, and business.

What other book might you compare League of Denial to and why?

This book cannot be compared to no other.

What does David H. Lawrence XVII bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Narrator was a bit robotic at times. However, he made the parts with lots of medical terminology easier to get through.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Groundbreaking

Did the narration match the pace of the story?
