I love a great long book but this one was not for me. Loved how it started but then it lost me over and over again. Each to their own, you may love it as I know others have.
My first Jodi Picoult book and never another. I have no idea why this is a best seller. I needed to leave my brain behind to stay at the slow and unintelligent pace of this book. No challenge, obvious plot, badly written. Why do we applaud the lowest denominator in popular culture? I think this book, and all it inaccuracies, was written for people who had just learnt to read. Give us some more credit for the size of our brains Ms Piccoult. No wonder Ms Piccoult is the only author in the history of Hollywood where people say the movie was better than the book. It wouldn't be hard to achieve.
I too found the narrator very difficult to get used to and only in the second half felt I could settle into his style. But I loved the book, it inspired me and opened my heart and my mind in so many ways. Wonderful!
I loved every moment of this book. So beautifully read, so extraordinarily written. Thank goodness I didn't read any of these negative reviews before I started listening. I was gripped, never wanting my journey with Edgar Sawtelle to end.
Gladwell takes me on an unexpected journey far from my belief systems that savvy and hard work were the key to success. He has opened my eyes to theories about the way the world works that I had never contemplated. Incredibly compelling.
